  • 2. Virtual Skené: a Virtual Reconstruction of Ptolemy II Philadelphus’ Tent in Alexandria What is the project about? 1) Virtual reconstruction of an archaeological building Ptolemy II Philadelphus’Tent was an ephemeral building; it was built in Alexandria royal gardens to last for just one year (around 280 b.C.) 2) Virtual model as a scientific publication A philological model, restricted to architecture and some hints on historical arrangement, will be realized as graphical counterpart of the traditional scholarly article. It will adress an academic audience, mainly concerning the reconstruction process, and it will be hosted by institutional channels - scientific networks for authoring, validation and distribution of Virtual Heritage (such as 3D repositories) 3) Educational applications A more suggestive and narrative version, focused on the reconstruction of historical events, therefore including characters and storytelling techniques, will be addressed to dissemination through educational platforms (a web museum?) Elena Toffalori PhD History and Computing, Università di Bologna elena.toffalori@studio.unibo.it
  • 3. Virtual Skené: a Virtual Reconstruction of Ptolemy II Philadelphus’ Tent in Alexandria Focus and goals • Use of open source resources • Effective evaluation of adopted communication strategies • Focusing on communication The project will focus mainly on web museums and the way of promoting cultural contents on the web, both through scientific boards and networks, and through educational platforms in a more didactic way Elena Toffalori PhD History and Computing, Università di Bologna elena.toffalori@studio.unibo.it
