    • My audio CDs work fine
    • I have cassette tapes
    • I have LPs
    • My computer is too old

    • Never misplace another CD
    • Make “playlists” of any number of songs from any number of albums
    • Allows use of other digital music products:
      • iPODs (and other brands of portable media players)
      • Digital media players
  • 5. Digital Music – Why Bother?
    • With a little help, convert your old LPs and cassette tapes to digital music
    • Older computer?
      • Use good, time-tested conversion and playing software
      • Winamp 2.91, RealPlayer
  • 6. Digital Music – Why Bother?
    • Create “MP3 CDs” which hold ten times the songs of standard CDs
    • MP3 CDs can be played in virtually all DVD players and many car/home CD players
    • Thousands of Internet radio stations
      • Eliminates FM reception problem

    • Copying audio CDs to your computer is called “ripping”
    • MUST have Internet connection for album-song titles to be correctly assigned
    • One song per file
    • Files stored in nested folder structure
      • Artist Album
    • Use standard naming convention
      • <track #> - <track title> - <album> - <artist>
      • e.g., 01 - Overture - Child Is Father To The Man - Blood, Sweat & Tears

    • Use RealPlayer ( www.real.com ) to convert audio CDs
    • Use RealPlayer or WinAmp version 2.91, download from oldversion.com
    For Older PCs Running Windows 98 Must have an Internet connection before converting.. Otherwise, your songs have “Untitled” names, untitled artist/album (see next slide)…
