Unique in-depth study reveals only modest impact on farmers incomes. During the African Fine Coffee Conference & Exhibition on February 13-15, 2014 in Bujumbura, Burundi the results of an impact study by CIDIN where presented.
Karugu Macharia, director of Solidaridad East-Africa, outlines its conclusions: ‘Certification and training alone won’t help African coffee farmers build a better future. We need a broader strategy to ensure that coffee growing becomes more sustainable and to make it more attractive for young farmers. This important study has implications for the coffee sector worldwide.’
Macharia presented the following slides. Please find more information about the impact study here: http://solidaridadnetwork.org/sustainable-coffee-needs-more-certification
