Companies in the local ecosystem will drive nearly £6 billion of investment, most of it in the UK. The Microsoft partner ecosystem: - employs over 500,000 people , Source: IDC Economic Impact - accounts for 38% of IT employment Stud 2009 - contributes 42% of IT-related taxes Microsoft Research Centre in Cambridge is a £50m investment and employs 140 world class researchers and several hundred other staff.

This approach will significantly reduce the cost (outsourcer & IT staff/resources) and complexity of managing multiple desktop configurations across Government. Key Microsoft Play for Gov. Examples •Potential in-year savings of £354m •US Air Force •Based on 3m central Gov desktops: • £39 reduction/desktop/year • PC Management £4m • Total £94m over 5 years • App Virtualisation up to £300m • £10m power savings per year (£30 per desktop potential saving) •City of Miami • Multiple images £50m • 3.5k employees. £81k per year Savings in future years savings from deployment of •PC management £478m 5 years Win7 •Five year savings of circa £1,428m • £29k energy cost saving in year 1 Next steps •Discussions with Cabinet Office are in place for Pan- Government Desktop •How can we expedite refresh strategy with assistance around Standardisation and components such as Win7 •Engagement with SIs
