Hamburg <ul><li>a city since 1198 </li></ul><ul><li>2 nd biggest city in Germany + richest city in the north </li></ul><ul><li>has lots of Hamburgers :)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>has 1.7 mill inhabitants </li></ul><ul><li>is a state all by itself </li></ul><ul><li>greets: “Hummel, Hummel – Mors, Mors!” </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>has the 2 nd greatest container port in Europe (after Rotterdam)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>2500 bridges – the most in europe! </li></ul><ul><li>had a tax free port that is still preserved today </li></ul><ul><li>burned down in a big fire in 1843 and was rebuild as a rich city afterwards </li></ul><ul><li>has seagulls </li></ul>that shit a lot!
  4. 4. 2 Soccerteams <ul><li>Name: HSV </li></ul><ul><li>only soccertea m that is still in the premier leagu e since 44 year s – the longest in Germany </li></ul><ul><li>classical Hamburg soccer team </li></ul><ul><li>Na me: St.Pauli (- São Paulo? ;) )‏ </li></ul><ul><li>tea m for the alte rnatives and pun ks </li></ul><ul><li>most female club fans in Germany </li></ul>

Reeperbahn <ul><li>is a red light district and the party place in Hamburg at the same time </li></ul><ul><li>used to be a street to make ropes for the sailingships </li></ul><ul><li>is also called “Kiez” </li></ul><ul><li>has the only live sex theatre left in Germany - “Safari” </li></ul><ul><li>has the “Herbert-” street where the entrance is only allowed for men (guess what is inside :P )‏ </li></ul><ul><li>is the place where the beatles became famous in Germany </li></ul>

Hamburger Dom <ul><li>Dom is the name of a german cathedral </li></ul><ul><li>the Hamburger Dom is a fair, that started in a german cathedral in the 14 th century, until it was banned by the bishop </li></ul><ul><li>since then it has continued outside and better then befo re </li></ul><ul><li>now we don't need a church to go to the DOM and have fun ;)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>we have it 3 times a year </li></ul>

Northern Slang <ul><li>expression of surprise and calling your buddy (young people): </li></ul><ul><li>“ ALTER” (old guy)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>expression of big surprise: </li></ul><ul><li>“ ALTER SCHWEDE” (old swedish guy)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>calling your buddy in Hamburg: </li></ul><ul><li>“ Digger” (= “Dicker” = fat guy)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>we know we are a little weird, but we like it that way ;)‏ </li></ul>

Pirates <ul><li>Hamburg also had a little stor y with “Stör tebec ker” and other pirates </li></ul><ul><li>so we also did a recepti on we ekend on that ;)‏ </li></ul><ul><li>Störteb ecker was behea ded in Hamburg </li></ul><ul><li>b ut he could free a s many from his crew as he c ould pass by after his head had been cut off ... </li></ul><ul><li>he still freed 11 people – until the mayor did not keep his word! </li></ul>

Hamburg University <ul><li>founded on 1 st of April 1919 </li></ul><ul><li>40.000 students, 60.000 in Hamburg all together </li></ul><ul><li>Main campus in the middle of the city, computer science 40 minutes to the north </li></ul><ul><li>about 3 Euros for a meal incl. drink on the campus - you can almost eat for the same price elsewhere, but better! </li></ul><ul><li>just introduced studying fees </li></ul>
