  • 2. About the virus!!!1!
    • The name of my virus!!!1! Is SonyBMG rootkit.
    • The sonybmg rootkit got its name because it was a problem found with the Sony BMG CD copy prevention.
  • 3. WhAt It DiD!
    • It was a program that prevented the copying of Sony cd’s and automatically downloaded to the computer and open security holes that allowed virus onto the computer more easily.
    • It took about 3 months to fix the virus when Sony came out with a software utility that removed the rootkit component from the computer.
  • 4. What it did (cont)
    • It affected around 500,000 networks.
    • You received the virus from other sources the Sony bmg rootkit just allowed virus into you computer more easily by opening security holes in windows.
  • 5. Feelings about the virus!!!1!
    • This virus affected regular people along with commercial networks and anyone that used Sony bmg cd’s.
    • The writer of this rootkit wasn’t trying to make a virus he was trying to make and anti-copying program and it altered the way windows operating systems read the cd’s.
    • If you got the root kit on you computer then you would need to get the rootkit utility to remove the rootkit components.
