Unit 57: Photography andPhotographic PracticeResearch of otherphotographers work byAshleigh Darlingtonlandscape photographers
He was an American environmentalist whowas best known for his black and whitelandscape photographs of the AmericanWest. His photography career began in the1920’s when he produced his first portfolio in1927 and it was a great success as from thatportfolio he earned nearly $3,900 and thenbecause of that he soon after receivedcommercial assignments where hephotographed the wealthy patrons whobought his portfolio. By the 1930’s Adamswork had matured and this in particular wasa very production and experimental time forhim. He expanded his work and beganfocusing on detailed close-ups as well aslarge forms from mountains to factories.
Out of all the Ansel Adams images Ilooked at this one is my favourite I likehow we can see the suns reflection inthe water and there is more light in thisimage than there is usually in his imagesbecause as they are black and white thisone has more white because of the sunand the sea. So I like how he used thecolour white for these more than theblack. The photograph also looks like ithas been took on a slightly tiltedangle, which I prefer with landscapesrather than just being straight onbecause you get more in when thecamera has been tilted.
I do like the photographs produced by Ansel Adams however when I was doing myresearch I found quite a few images of his that have been converted into colourand I do prefer them a lot better in colour:However I understand because of the time Ansel Adams did his photographs hedidn’t have access to the equipment and software and colour that landscapephotographers have this year. So I do still like his work there are just other piecesof work by more newer landscape photographers that I prefer. I would use hisinspiration on some images maybe just a couple in black and white.
