  • Questionnaire By Nicole
  • 1. Are you male or female?
    • Our results from the questionnaires show that:
    • 40% are male
    • 60% are female
    • This is important as different genders have different music preferences and when creating our music video we need to create the video that will appeal to a certain audience.
  • 2. How old are you?
    • Our results showed us that:
    • 70% are 16- 19 year olds
    • 30 % are 20- 25 year olds
    • As our target audience is 16 - 25, we asked people in this range to fill out a questionnaire because we want to know what they are looking for in a music video and there would be no point in asking people older or younger than our target audience to participate in our questionnaires.
  • 3. What is your favourite genre of music?
    • These are the results of the questionnaire:
    • 60% Indie/Alternative
    • 30% Rock
    • 10% R&B
    • Our results show that over half the people that we asked would chose to listen to ‘Indie/Alternative’ this is good for us because this is the genre that we are going to create from are artist. This also shows that chart music such as ‘pop’ is no longer as popular as it used to be. I believe that this is because there are lots of different music styles about now and people don’t want to follow the crowd, they want to be different.
  • 4. Do you prefer narrative or band based videos?
    • Our results show that:
    • 60% prefer narrative based videos
    • 40% prefer band based videos
    • Our results show that it is quite close between narrative and band based videos. This is important to know what people prefer because when we are creating our video we need to know what the audience want from the video therefore it will appeal to them. From our results we have decided that our music video will be narrative based which means there is a story in the video.
  • 5. What is the most important part of a music video?
    • These were the results:
    • 40% lyrics
    • 50% the video itself
    • 10% the artist
    • Our results are quite mixed as different people like different things, but we need to create a video that people will enjoy watching as if you like a video you will want to watch videos by that artist. But people like watching videos where the lyrics mean something as they feel like they can relate to them.
  • 6. Do you prefer black and white or coloured videos?
    • These are the results that I collected:
    • Coloured 70%
    • Black and White 30%
    • As you can see from our questionnaires it shows that more than half of the people prefer the videos that they watch to be in colour. I believe that this depends on the type of genre because you don’ t have a hip-hop video in black and white they are normally sad, slow songs that are created on black and white.
  • 7. Do you like animated videos or non-animated videos?
    • These are our results:
    • Animated 30%
    • Non-animated 70%
    • Our results tell us that over half of the people that we asked would prefer to watch a video which has no animation in, therefore we have decided that in our video we will not put animation in it because people don’ t like it and I believe that it wont fit in with our genre.
  • 8. Do you think location shots are important?
    • Here are the results from our questionnaire:
    • Yes 70%
    • No 30%
    • I believe that most videos you watch have location shots however the odd few videos are all based in a studio. Sometimes location shots are not used because there are more expensive than a studio as they have pay for transport and they will have a lot of equipment that they transfer. Location shots make the video more exciting and can sometimes help tell the story.
  • 9. Should the artist be in the music video?
    • These are the results that we have collected:
    • Yes 80%
    • No 20%
    • These results show us that people prefer the artist in the video. I believe that this is because sometimes people just watch a music video because they like a certain artist. Also it may confuse people if they are not in the video and may put them off the song. In most videos now days artist are in the video because it is a way of advertising the artist.
  • 10. Should the video relate to the lyrics of the song?
    • Yes 50%
    • No 50%
    • This is what Andrew Goodman theory is about as he says that there should be a relationship between the lyrics and the video itself. As you can see fro the results of our questionnaire they audience are spilt on what they think as it was 50% for each. We have decided that for in our music video that the video will not exactly reflect the video as we are going for a ‘Alice in wonder world’ theme.
