Whether it's via employee profiles or finding people contributing to certain conversations, Yammer's rich search capabilities make it an ideal place to find expertise within your organization. With MySites enabled, SharePoint provides some capabilities to find experts in your company. Yammer provides some depth by being able to see conversations and topics to which people have contributed. While possible to find the right person via email, this method is not very efficient because it's confined to who you know and restricted by the information you have stored within your silo'd email inbox.
