2. 2.  Introduction  Question Paper pattern  Syllabus 2 CONTENTS THIS PRESENTATION COVERS THE DETAILS OF THE QUESTION PAPER FOR SSC-CGL EXAMINATION ALONG WITH THE SSC SYLLABUS.
3. 3. INTRODUCTION The selection process for SSC-CGL consists of two steps – 1. WRITTEN TEST and 2. INTERVIEW. The written test comprises of two tiers – Tier 1 and Tier 2, both of which consist of objective type and MCQ questions. The next slides will familiarize you with the question paper pattern for SSC CGL Tier I and Tier II exam along with the SSC syllabus.

QUESTION PAPER PATTERN QUESTION PAPER PATTERN FOR TIER I EXAM • Total time for general candidates - 2 hours • Total time for special needs candidates – 2 hours 40 minutes PART SUBJECT MARKS A General Intelligence and Reasoning 50 B General Awareness 50 C Numerical Aptitude 50 D English Comprehension 50 NOTE – If and wherever necessary, the examination may be held in 2 shifts for different batches of candidates.

6. 6. SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER I EXAM General Intelligence and Reasoning It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. This component may include questions on :- • analogies • similarities and differences • space visualization and spatial orientation, • problem solving, analysis and judgment. • Also includes decision making and discrimination • visual memory and observation • relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, • arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER I EXAM General Intelligence and Reasoning The topics are :- • Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy and Figural Analogy • Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, and Figural Classification, • Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series • Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & de-coding • Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams. • Drawing inferences, Punched hole/pattern -folding & un-folding • Figural Pattern - folding and completion, Indexing, Address matching • Date & city matching, Classification of centre codes/roll numbers, Small & Capital letters/numbers coding, decoding and classification • Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Other sub-topics, if any. 7

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER I EXAM General Awareness • Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. • Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. • The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER I EXAM Quantitative Aptitude: The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. • The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals ,fractions and relationships between numbers, Percentage. • Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Allegation, • Time and distance, Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, • Triangle and its various kinds of centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles. • It will also include Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons , Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER I EXAM English Comprehension: • Through this section, a candidate's ability to understand and correct English etc. would be tested. • Questions on Fill in the Blanks, Idioms & Phrases, Jumbled sentences (ordering), One word substitution. Synonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/Detecting Misspelt words, Common errors, sentence improvement, Passage, Cloze test are asked.

SYLLABUS FOR TIER II EXAM Paper-1 : Quantitative Ability The paper will have questions based on • Number Systems, • Computation of Whole Numbers, • Decimals and Fractions, • Ratio and Proportion. • Allegation and Mixture, • Average • Interest • Profit and Loss, Discount. relationship between Numbers, Fundamental Arithmetical Operations. Percentage, , Use of Table and Graphs, charts, Time and Distance. Time and work, Trigonometry, Geometry, roots, LCM and HCF, surds and indices (most of the topics same as tier 1 but higher difficulty level). SSC SYLLABUS

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER II EXAM Paper-1 : Quantitative Ability (CONT.) • Discount • relationship between Numbers • Fundamental Arithmetical Operations. • Percentage • Use of Table and Graph charts • Time and Distance • Time and work • Trigonometry • Geometry • Roots • LCM and HCF • surds and indices (most of the topics same as tier 1 but higher difficulty level). 12

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER II EXAM Paper -2 : English Language & Comprehension • Spot the error, questions on filling the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, spelling error detection, shuffling of sentence parts. Comprehension passages, idioms & phrases, 1 word substitution. Sentence improvement, active & passive voices, Narration. 13

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER II EXAM Paper-3 : Statistics for Investigator Grade-II, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation & Compiler in RGI. • Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis, Correlation and Regression. • Collection Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data, Measures of Central Tendency. • Measures of Dispersion, Probability Theory, Time Series Analysis. • Index Numbers, Random Variable and Probability Distributions. • Sampling Theory, Analysis of Variance, Statistical Inference. 14 IMPORTANT NOTE - The questions in Paper 1 of exam will be of 10th class level, Paper-II of 10+2 level and Paper-III of graduation level.

SSC SYLLABUS SYLLABUS FOR TIER III EXAM PERSONALITY TEST/INTERVIEW • Marks for Interview cum Personality Test (except non- interview posts)- 100 marks. • Skill Test is conducted for tax assistant posts in Central Excise & Income Tax. CPT is conducted for Assistants in CSS. • Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): speed of data entry must be 8,000 Key Depression/hr. on Computer. • Data Entry Speed Skill Test at 2000 key depressions in 15 min will be tested and candidates will have to qualify it as it will be of qualifying nature. 15

SSC SYLLABUS PHYSICAL TEST FOR CENTRAL AND EXCISED INSPECTOR, EXAMINER, PREVENTIVE OFFICER, INSPECTOR AND SI IN CBN. • For Male : PST ; height - 157.5 cm , chest 81/+5 Physical Test: Walking: 1600 meters in 15 minutes. Cycling: 8 Km in 30 minutes. • For Female : height – 152 cm Physical Test : Walking : 1 km in 20 minutes. Cycling : 3 km in 25 minutes PHYSICAL TEST FOR ASSISTANT IN CBI • For Male : Height – 165 cm Chest – 76 cm • For Female : Height : 150 cm • Vision – 6/6 16
