A total of150 questions were spread across five sections. Itseems that the AILET paper-setters have a penchantfor springing surprises on the students! While thesurprise package of 2012 was in Legal Aptitude, in2013, it is the Mathematics and General Knowledgesection. Most students felt that the paper wasunnecessarily lengthy. 90 minutes for 150 questionsof this level was obviously less than required.Legal AptitudeSmartPrep was the first company to predict that theLegal Reasoning section would closely mirror theCLAT. Bingo! There was approximately a 50 : 50break-up between Legal Reasoning and LegalKnowledge. In fact, in comparison to last year, manystudents found the Legal section to be quite easy. The reasoning based questions were mainly fromthe law of torts and the law of crimes. Knowledgebased question were mainly from ConstitutionalLaw, including Fundamental Rights, LawCommissions, etc. A score of around 25 should beattainable.EnglishFeedback from examinees suggests that though thedifficulty level of question were between easy andmedium, the RC passages were quite lengthy andabstract. There were around 10 sentence correctionquestions, 5 questions based on correct usage ofpreposition. Synonym, Antonym, Para Jumble andCloze Test were also part of the English section.Considering the length of this section a scorearound 25 would be decent.MathematicsThis was the surprise section of 2013, total of 10questions. Level of question varied betweenmoderate to difficult. Arithmetic was a major partof this section. 2 questions were from numbersystem. Other questions ranged between averages, time and work, TSD, etc. A score of around 5 wouldbe decent.Logical ReasoningThe biggest relief for many students was theabsence of any question based on syllogism. Therewere questions based on word arrangement, andseries - these questions were relatively easy tosolve. Other topics included blood relation, calendars, coding-decoding, etc. a few questionswere also from critical and analytical reasoning. Ascore of around 23 should be decent.General KnowledgeThe toughest section of AILET 2013 was GK.Deviation from past, with lesser number ofquestions on current affairs. The difficulty level ofquestions varied from moderate to difficult. Amajority of the questions were from static GK,nothing much from current affairs. History,Economy and Polity formed the bulk of thequestions. Anyone who followed the Femina MissIndia competition would have been rewarded - oneof the questions was based on that. A lot of whatwe would classify as trivia was also asked. A score ofaround 22 would be decent.
