Black SoilFound: Central and North western regionsof Southern Plateau.Characteristics: It is made of lava.Crops Grown: Cotton and Sugarcane
Laterite SoilFound: Western Ghats and parts of TamilNadu, Kerala and KarnatakaCharacteristics: It is red in colour.Crops Grown: Coffee, Tea, Spices, coconutand rubber
Dessert SoilFound: Rajasthan and parts of GujaratCharacteristics: It is sandy and can notretain water. Hence it is not fertile.Crops Grown: None
