A Grubby Mess - Keeping Grubs Out of Your Lawn

  1. 1. A GRUBBY MESS Keeping Grubs Out of Your Lawn
  2. 2. A BEAUTIFUL LAWN It’s the dream of almost every homeowner – a picture perfect lawn. Unfortunately, when those brown spots start popping up, it may spell one big problem – grubs.
  3. 3. BEETLE LARVAE Grubs are actually the larvae form of a couple of dif ferent kinds of beetles. They can live in one or three year cycles, and you can see them begin to emerge during any month of the warm weather season. They’ll feed on your lawn as they grow into adults.
  4. 4. SYMPTOMS OF A PROBLEM Not sure if you’re dealing with grubs? Here are a few signs to look out for.  As your lawn greens up in the spring, you may find patches that never turn green.  Oddly shaped dead patches may appear on your lawn, even if you’ve irrigated it well.  Other pests begin to tear up portions of your lawn. They’re usually looking for grubs.  Your turf turns into a sponge.
  5. 5. HOW MANY GRUBS ARE TOO MANY? Almost every lawn will have some grubs. Determining whether or not you have a problem is a numbers game. If you can look at a single square foot of your lawn and find just one to five grubs, there’s no need to treat. If, however, you find more than five, you could have a real problem on your hands.
  6. 6. PREVENTION IS KEY One of the best ways to make sure you don’t end up with an infestation is to prevent it in the first place. You can do that with these tips.  Watch your neighbor’s lawn. If they seem to have a problem, you can bet it will be headed for your lawn soon.  Grubs don’t like a thick soil cover, so overseed whenever possible.  Repair your lawn if you have any other problems as moist, dirt filled areas are actually an attraction for grubs.
  7. 7. SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP There are lots of DIY grub treatments on the market, but most of them won’t take care of the whole problem. If you want a beautiful lawn day after day, contact professional lawn care services for grub treatment help.
