  • 5. Early History of the Project
    • A goal of the New Jersey State Library’s “Libraries 2000” five-year plan.
    • 58 libraries were funded for Z39.50 and WebPac technology over a four year period.
    • A vendor was chosen for building our virtual catalog and interlibrary loan system.
  • 6. Problems encountered with early ISO compliant system
    • Client/server architecture
    • Slow response time
    • Not user friendly
    • Non-Z39.50 compliant libraries could not be lenders
  • 7. Migration to Auto-Graphic AGent
    • Needed to include small, non-Z39.50 compliant libraries of New Jersey as lending libraries
    • Agent’s hybrid model allowed us to accomplish this:
      • A union catalog for small libraries of 100,000 volumes or less
      • Z39.50 technology for catalogs that were already Z39.50 compliant.
