SLIDE 2 [Welcome and thank you] This is the project that more than any other project – is about re-imagining.. Unlike the other projects is not about re-inventing what we currently do.. But it’s about doing new stuff.. It is more challenging But that also makes it the more exciting and threatening
Final product is not clearly defined Changes constantly What needs to the defined is the processes to ensure we can move quickly because we have the frameworks and the agreed principles RLS – strategic plan – pragmatic not perfect
SLIDE 3 It is based on the recognition that expectations and behaviours are changing. Information-seeking now happens online – while, at the same time, the number of people coming through the doors of our libraries is increasing. (CLICK TO BRING IN EACH DOT POINT) People want services to be welcoming and easy to use. They value the community space that we provide, whether it is onsite physical spaces or online digital spaces They want to be independent and to access professional expertise only when and if it is required They want access to our services at their point of need, recognising that this point is shifting rapidly and unpredictably And they want digital content – whether it is born-digital or digitised by us - to make it more easily accessible.
Risk left behind irrelevant Content created today – is not collected for future generations User-Generated Content Draws Fans FEBRUARY 3, 2009 Six out of 10 US Internet users view user-generated content. http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1006895
NSLA Libraries already support this new culture through encouraging the mashing up of images, user tagging and making creative contributions – as in this example from Picture Australia.
NOTES SLIDE 10 There are 3 strategies that underpin what we are wanting to achieve with the program. They are: One Library – to provide a consistent experience, improved delivery and more tools across our libraries Transforming our culture – so we can deliver the Re-imagining Libraries vision Accessible content – improving access to our content online
RE-IMAGINIING LIBRARIES WILL ENABLE US TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY IN A DIGITAL WORLD.
