Refworks Fall 08 How To Set Up And Use

  2. 4. <ul><li>Go to Milner Library Main RFW Page http://www.library.ilstu.edu/page/1279 </li></ul><ul><li>Download and print out Help Getting Started </li></ul><ul><li>Write down ISU Group Code rwillstu on that document </li></ul>
  3. 5. <ul><li>Write down the ISU Group code rwillstu </li></ul><ul><li>Click on Connect to RefWorks </li></ul>
  4. 8. Click on New to RefWorks .
  5. 9. <ul><li>Use your first name for your user name. </li></ul><ul><li>User your ULID as the log in </li></ul><ul><li>Use any password </li></ul><ul><li>Use your ISU email address </li></ul>
  6. 11. <ul><li>View the Tutorial </li></ul><ul><li>Wait, didn’t I ask you to view the Tutorial? </li></ul><ul><li>No, really, did I forget to ask you to view the tutorials, yes, well, then I need to remind you to view the tutorials! </li></ul>
  7. 12. <ul><li>Go to refworks.com </li></ul><ul><li>Click log in </li></ul><ul><li>Under the Remote Access Tab, type the group code RWIllStU </li></ul><ul><ul><li>rwillstu works also! </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Login with your user name and password </li></ul><ul><li>You can also log in from the Milner page the same way that we did here. </li></ul><ul><li>Happy Researching! </li></ul>

  11. 18. <ul><li>Next, start writing your Questions that you will ask of each Source you review. </li></ul><ul><li>Scroll down from the Output Styles, and you will see User Defined Fields. </li></ul><ul><li>Edit those fields. </li></ul><ul><li>SAVE </li></ul>

  14. 21. <ul><li>Add the fields of your choice. </li></ul><ul><li>Include: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Database </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Descriptors </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Database </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Retrieved date </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>And your newly defined fields in addition to the others you will need for APA output. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Hit Save at top </li></ul>
  15. 22. <ul><li>1. You will have to get some sources. </li></ul><ul><li>2. You will have to answer your questions that you have created for each source. </li></ul><ul><li>3. After you have answered questions about the sources you have selected, you can then generate a Reference List that will have the User Defined Fields that you had made. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Make sure to select the output view to your newly created output. </li></ul>
  16. 23. <ul><li>After you have established some viewing preferences, you can select the ways you want view your reference list . </li></ul><ul><li>Notice the FIND IT button, it will help find the source in the library for you. </li></ul>
  17. 25. <ul><li>Submit a Reference list. </li></ul><ul><li>Submit a screen shot of your Criteria that you created. Hit Print Screen while viewing the Criteria, paste into a PPT slide, and submit that slide. </li></ul><ul><li>Answer the questions pertaining to your search from the instructions given for this assignment in Blackboard. </li></ul>
  18. 26. <ul><li>Bottom line, you must hammer it out, spend about 3-4 hours learning RefWorks and setting it up to your specifications. </li></ul><ul><li>Once you have this database, it is yours! </li></ul>
