Green Watch PICNIC presentation by Daniel Kaplan - Presentation Transcript

    1.
    2. The "vision"
      • From Fing's "Villes 2.0" (Cities 2.0) programme
      • Multiply the number of urban environmental sensors by 1,000
      • Promote people's participation in building sustainable cities
      • Encourage other sensor networks to share their data
      • Facilitate the emergence of new knowledge, new services, more informed decisions, new discussions…
    3. The initial experimentation The watch measures Ozone (O3), Noise every few seconds. It carries a GPS and a Bluetooth chip. The phone displays the information in a graphic way (the "Eye"). It transmits the data to the CityPulse platform. The platform displays the data in several ways. It also makes the raw data available.
    4. From individual measurement… 3 individual watches An itinerary
    5. … To collective maps… Ozone Noise
    6. … To shared (anonymized) data

    8. Next Steps CityPulse: Scale the Platform to agregate , process, and make available heterogeneous environmental data for Research, Decision-making, Public discussion and Service innovation Green Watch V3: Test and validate mobile, wearable, low-consumption, low-maintenance air quality/noise sensors. Integrate into various objects and test their desirability/convenience. 9. Issues
      • Technical
          • Low-energy, low-maintenance, reasonable quality environmental sensors
          • Managing large numbers of heterogeneous data (different parameters, contexts, biases, rules…)
      • Social
          • Motivating citizen participation in distributed measurement
          • Individualized feedback/service to the users Vs. Privacy
          • Data intelligibility and usability
          • Co-opetition between decentralized data production and access / official environmental management processes and devices
      • Economic
          • Platform business model
          • Open data re-use and service creation platform

    12. Now What?
      • CityPulse Platform:
      • Agregating heterogeneous data
      • Processing raw data
      • Managing privacy
      • Making data available
