Green Watch PICNIC presentation by Daniel Kaplan Green Watch PICNIC presentation by Daniel Kaplan Presentation Transcript

  •
  • The "vision"
    • From Fing's "Villes 2.0" (Cities 2.0) programme
    • Multiply the number of urban environmental sensors by 1,000
    • Promote people's participation in building sustainable cities
    • Encourage other sensor networks to share their data
    • Facilitate the emergence of new knowledge, new services, more informed decisions, new discussions…
  • The initial experimentation The watch measures Ozone (O3), Noise every few seconds. It carries a GPS and a Bluetooth chip. The phone displays the information in a graphic way (the "Eye"). It transmits the data to the CityPulse platform. The platform displays the data in several ways. It also makes the raw data available. View slide

  • Issues
    • Technical
        • Low-energy, low-maintenance, reasonable quality environmental sensors
        • Managing large numbers of heterogeneous data (different parameters, contexts, biases, rules…)
    • Social
        • Motivating citizen participation in distributed measurement
        • Individualized feedback/service to the users Vs. Privacy
        • Data intelligibility and usability
        • Co-opetition between decentralized data production and access / official environmental management processes and devices
    • Economic
        • Platform business model
