EMBASSY OF INDIA, KATHMANDU MAHATMA GANDHI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR NEPALESE STUDENTS STUDYING IN CLASS XI IN NEPAL Embassy of India, Kathmandu invites applications for Mahatma GandhiScholarship on prescribed data-sheets from Nepalese nationals enrolled in Class-XIin recognized schools/colleges in Nepal. 1000 scholarships (under revision) areavailable under the scheme for the academic year 2012-13.2. Eligibility(i) Candidates should be Nepalese citizen.(ii) Candidates should be regular student of class XI and studying in anyrecognized school/ college of Nepal. They should have secured minimum 55%marks in aggregate in Class X/SLC, if passed out from Government schools,75% marks in aggregate, if passed out from private schools located in thedistricts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. For students from rest ofNepal minimum 50% marks, if passed out from Government schools, 70% forthose passed out from private schools.(iii) Family income of the candidate must be less than NRs. 1,20,000/- perannum and income proof certificate issued by CDO only will be acceptable. Incase income proof certificate from CDO is not submitted,no other proof ofincome will be acceptable andapplication will be summarily rejected.3. Age Limit: Applicants should be between 15 and 20 years as on July 01, 2012.4. Scholarship Amount:Selected students will get a scholarship of NRs. 500/- permonth (under revision) in the first year. This will be continued in the second year also,provided the awardee gets 50% or above marks in Class-XI. The scholarship will bediscontinued if the percentage of marks obtained by the awardee falls below 50% inclass XI or for any other reason that the Embassy may deem necessary.5. Selection Process:(i) Short-listed candidates will be called for interview, which will be conducted inKathmandu, Birgunj and at other regional centers in December/January, 2013. Thefinal selection will be based on academic record and performance in interview.Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed conveyance charges upto a maximum of NRs. 500/- on producing proof of having undertaken the journey i.e.bus / air tickets.(ii) Name of candidates short-listed for the interview will be placed on IndianEmbassy website & intimation to this effect will be given through advertisement innewspapers. Candidates are advised to interact solely with the Education Wing,Embassy of India, Kathmandu/ Consulate General of India, Birgunj and Embassy ofIndia, Camp Office, Biratnagar on the scholarship scheme. The candidates shouldindicate their address and contact telephone numbers/ e-mail address clearly on thedata sheet. Any change in address/ telephone number should also be intimated

Candidates are advised to check the Embassy website forany further information with regard to this scholarship scheme.(iii) Girls, dalits,physically challenged students and students residing in the remotedistricts of Nepal are strongly advised to apply for the scholarship.(iv) Candidates studying in Class XI in Chitwan, Makwanpur, Parsa, Bara,Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha districts should submit their applicationforms at CGI Birgunj. Similarly, Candidates studying in Class XI in Siraha, Udaypur,Saptri, Sunsari, Morang,Dhankuta, Jhapa and Illam should submit their applicationforms at Emabassy of India , Camp office, Biratnagar. Candidates studying in ClassXI from districts other than those mentioned above should submit their forms atEmbassy of India, Education Wing, Kathmandu.(v) Children of retired/ serving Nepalese soldiers in Indian Army are required tofurnish a certificate to this effect and send their application through Assistant MilitaryAttaché (welfare), Embassy of India, Kathmandu.6. Instructions for filling Data-Sheet(i) The Data-Sheet should be downloaded from the Indian Embassy and should be filled legibly, preferably typed and shouldbe submitted in 1 copy. Candidates are required to submit application at only oneplace i.e. either at Embassy of India, Kathmandu or at Consulate General of India,Birgunj or Embassy of India, Camp office, Biratnagar.(ii) Candidates should attach 1 attested photograph on data sheet, attestedphotocopy of citizenship certificate, attested copy of mark sheet of Class X / SLC onlyand parental income proof certificate issued by CDO only will be accepted. Thosecandidates who do not possess a citizenship certificate can submit the attestedphotocopy of citizenship certificate of their parents. Original documents should onlybe brought during the time of interview. Data-sheet may be submitted eitherpersonally or by post to the office of Attaché (Education), Embassy of India, P. O.Box 292, Kapurdhara Marg, Kathmandu or at Consulate General of India, Shreepur,Birgunj; or Embassy of India, Camp Office, Biratnagar not later than Dec 15, 2012.Forms will be accepted on all working days between 10:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs.7. Data-sheet should be strictly in the format specified in the advertisement orinthe Indian Embassy website
