  • 4. But how much do you really know ABOUT ALS?

  • 8. What it stands for: Amyotrophic L ateral S clerosis i.e. a neurodegenerative disease with various causes
  • 9. Person without ALS: Upper Motor Neurons connected to Lower Motor Neurons connected to Muscle everything works
  • 10. Person with ALS: Upper Motor Neurons degenerated Lower Motor Neurons degenerated Muscle loss of function
  • 11. What could happen in ‘sciencey’ terms dysphagia/dyspnea dysarthria muscle spasticity muscle atrophy muscle atrophy muscle atrophy
  • 12. What could happen in non ‘sciencey’ terms you can’t speak properly your muscles lose function you have trouble in the toilet you can’t eat or breathe properly you can’t feel your arms you can’t walk
