Part 3, Step 2 Q2Q:What do you notice about the distribution of these earthquakes?A: The earthquakes are distributed all on the boundary lines because thats wherethe earth moves.
Part 3, Step 2 Q3Q: How does the distribution of these earthquakes compare to others?A: That they are all in groups on/by the Convergent Boundary. And theyare more near the oceans.
Part 3, Step 2 Q5Q: What type of plate boundary is associated with earthquakes that have amagnitude of 7.0 or greater?A: The occur on Convergent boundaries because that is where the earthmoves closer to each other.
Part 3, Step 3 Q4Q: What Percentage of big earthquakes occur within 100 miles of aconvergent plate boundary?A: 613 out 1286 of 48% of big earthquakes occur within 100 miles ofconvergent plate boundaries.
Part 3, Step 3 Q5Q:What Percentage of big earthquakes occur within 200 miles of aconvergent plate boundary?A: 977 out of 1286 so that is 76% of big earthquakes occur within 200 milesof a convergent plate boundary.
The list of ten places that I think will have earthquakes soon: China - Because many parts of it has recently had an earthquake. California - Because they get many that are fairly big. Southern part of Mexico - Because it is right on the boundary line. Chile - Because they get them with all the other places surrounding it. Italy - Because they have had a lot this past year. Japan - Because they have just had a big one and its right on a convergentline. Australia - Because they have had a small amount so I think that they areoverdue for more. Netherlands - Because they are overdue for one. Alaska - Because it gets them with California and Mexico. London - Because they get little ones almost everyday.
What new and improved technology do scientists have now Scientist have programs like InSAR the program that predicts earthquakes also they are developing satellites that shoot into space that can tell us when an earthquake will happen days and even weeks before they actually happen.
I think that China isgoing to have the next earthquake!!
Overall:I have learned that there is a lot more to predicting earthquakes then Ithought. It is very hard because every little thing counts and if you do onething wrong then it wont work. The factors that influence earthquakes are the places that you are testing, the technology that you use, how you are testing, how far along theearthquake is, and how much pressure that the the earthquake has builtup. The most really big earthquakes strike on the convergent boundariesbecause thats were the earth moves into each other.
