Mismanagement results into more damage to human life then the actual disaster. www.sahana.lk Disaster Management Sahana Software Foundation After any disaster , govenment sets up relief camps and provides aid to the displaced people. Interantional aid is also provided to the country. Aid includes food, water, drugs, clothes and other things. Proper distribution of these things needed to be done. Mismanagement results into not propely utilizing the aids being sent.

Lack of one complete package for disaster relief work management wasn't available. This results into need of a software package that can handle various tasks related to disaster Management. Hence Sahana was developed!

www.sahana.lk Sahana Software Foundation Sahana is web based application package provding solution to post disaster problem regarding various type of information require to manage the disaster relief work.

www.sahana.lk History of Sahana Sahana Software Foundation Sahana Disaster Management System was developed after Tsunami 2004 by Lanka Software Foundation. The system was deployed by the Sri Lankan government's Center of National Operations (CNO), which included the Center of Humanitarian Agencies (CHA) The system was rebuilt from scratch in Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl. The system is available for free for anyone to download and customize and is distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL).

Missing Person Registry - Helping to reduce trauma by effectively finding missing persons 2. Organization Registry - Coordinating and balancing the distribution of relief organizations in the affected areas and connecting relief groups allowing them to operate as one 3 .Request Management System - Registering and Tracking all incoming requests for support and relief upto fulfillment and helping donors connect to relief requirements Sahana 0.6.2.2

Situation Awareness - Providing a GIS overview of the situation at hand for the benefit of the decision makers

Sahana is developed in a custom PHP framework which is based on design principles which have since become sub-optimal due to the emergence of new MVC frameworks & highly-interactive Web 2.0 UIs. The current codebase has grown organically since it was originally designed – standards have broken down & the code is becoming harder to maintain. It is currently hard to access data from modules via consistent methods this is required for serious integration e.g. in GIS & Messaging.
