  • 1. Math Dictionary #3
    By: Sabrina and Cienna
  • 2. Equations
    To solve an equation we always do the opposite operation on both sides.
    When solving a two-step equation you have to follow the order of operations backwards to find the operation you undo first.
    Adding- add, sum, more, increase, total, plus
    Subtracting- minus, difference, decrease, fewer than, less than
    Multiplying- times, product, of
    Dividing- divide, quotient, per
  • 3. Inequalities
    Inequality- a math statement without an equal sign and with a >, <, >, < sign
    You solve an inequality the same way you solve an equation.
    You reverse the inequality symbol when you multiply or divide by a negative number.
  • 4. Equations & Inequalities Problem #1
    X + 24 = 31
    • 24 -24
    X = 7
    7 + 24 = 31
  • 5. Equations & InequalitiesProblem #2
    -3a = 81
    -3 -3
    A = -27
    -27 * (-3) = 81
  • 6. Equations & InequalitiesProblem #3
    2x + 10 = 46
    -10 -10
    2x36
    2 2
    X = 18
    18 * 2 = 36
    36 + 10 = 46
  • 7. Equations & InequalitiesProblem #4
    Y / 9 = 14
    (9)
    Y = 126
    126 / 9 = 14
  • 8. Equations & InequalitiesProblem #5
    C – 12 = 26
    + 12 +12
    c = 38
    38 – 12 = 26
  • 9. Equations & InequalitiesProblem #6
    -6y > -96
    -6 -6
    Y > 16
    16 * (-6) = -96
  • 10. Equations & InequalitiesProblem #7
    X – 14 < 35
    + 14 +14
    x < 49
    49 – 14 = 35
