Advantages of Twitter  Easy to navigate and update, link to and promote anything  Pure communication tool, rapid responsiveness  Very interactive and extensible messaging platform  Mostly used for business and networking puposes  Businesses of all kinds use Twitter to market their products and services, to engage in dialogue with customers 3

Disadvantages of Twitter  Limited functionality, find people, send brief messages  Not all people find it immediately useful  Over emphasis on follower counts  Relatively smaller installed user base  Twitter does not offer photo album, chat room, no advertisements  Limited to 140 characters per update 4

Facebook  Facebook is a social networking site  It was developed by Mark Zuckerberg, started from February 2004  Facebook currently more than 700 million active users  It helps to connects people, make friends, share photos, videos, links, etc  Appeals to people looking to reconnect with old friends and family members or find new friends online 5
  6. 6. Advantages of Facebook  Find people, make connections, email, share images or videos  More emphasis on deep connections with others who has the most connections  Rapidly growing intalled user base  Personal data collection make Facebook a powerful advertising platfrom 6
  7. 7. Disadvantages of Facebook  More difficult to navigate and update  Requires investment of time to realize sustained benefit  Overhead of mashup and thick applications could limit scalability and bloat coast structure  Opt in model requires a user to allow others to connect 7

Facebook vs. Twitter  Facebook is to be used by those who wish to reconnect with old friends and family members on the other hand Twitter does not prove to be friend meeting destination.  One can connect within his specific network on Facebook while Twitter permits us to update everyone about us.  One can simply operate various features like email, instant messaging, image, video sharing on Facebook while Twitter is a bit harder to get our arms around at initial time.  Facebook sticks to be more traditional social networking where we maintain our profile while Twitter relies on its micro blogging features. 8
