TAIPRO’s activities
TAIPRO Engineering focuses its activities on
innovative micro assembly (packaging) of
existing sensors and microelectronic COTS
(Components Off The Shelf) to perform
customized solutions with new functionalities for
industrial applications:
Tailored development project for in situ proof of
concept demonstration,
Standard & nonstandard packaging/micro assembly
consultancy and pre-production series before
manufacturing,
Training on specific packaging and testing equipment,
Remark: TAIPRO’s customer does not know what is
a sensor… How to answer properly? LCA is a part of
the solution Examples

Applicable markets for example 1
Industrials needs
Fast response time
System assembled quickly based on existing tecnological bricks
Limited modifications in process or equipments
Drag & drop : autonomous tool
Miniaturized tool
Open tool box : easily adapted to the application
Low cost
Sensor based on existing components (packaged & unpackaged)
no development of new components.
Cost of the solution smaller than the “ecoprofit” at customer
level (Return On Investment)
Ability to detect a soft deviation of the production plant

Information needed from the customer
Typical Production information:
Mean Time Between Failure (X hour)
Number of stops per week (Average)
Typical Main consumption « easily saved »
Electricity: XX KWh (cost reduced during stop but not
equal to 0)
Chemical fluids/gas (~fixed cost even during stop)
Cost of the workers (~fixed cost even during stop)
…
If you increase the working ratio you also increased
the « energetic & economical » efficiency

Other aspect:
Direct cost is not the only parameter.
They also need to improve the quality of
the product added value on the product

Expectations in LCA
To evaluate the impact of developing innovative tailored
sensor solutions able to acquire, process, store data for
end user.
End user’s goal : to allow predictive maintenance on
continuous production line with support of a end user
TAIPRO’s goal: To be able to convince “qualitatively”
the customer to innovate in their processes TAIPRO
want to reinforce its position with their customers/end
users
Main issue: We have to speak the same language as
the customer LCA will help us

Conclusion
Some smart solution already exist without LCA
support. Because some customer already
knows what they have to measure/save
A LCA tools has to provide a competitive asset
to TAIPRO by:
Identify a way to discuss with end- users/customers
– Speak the same language
Having the capability to evaluate the « eco-impact »
of a sensor at customer level Lead to a strong
partnership
