  4. 4. Open - any reader can create it, edit it as they see fit. Incremental or Organic – develops over time, written by one or more authors. Universal - The mechanisms of editing and organizing are the same as those of writing so that any writer is automatically an editor and organizer. Materials are uploaded under the creative commons (CC) licence.
  5. 5. Wiki supporters generally feel that it is generally easier to correct mistakes than create content from scratch. Collaboration on projects moves it along quicker and hence wiki wiki
  6. 6. <ul><li>Wiki communities believe that content should be free . The slogan of the Mediawiki software, which runs all the projects of the Wikimedia foundation, encapsulates this spirit : </li></ul><ul><li>Ideas want to be free . </li></ul><ul><li>Wiki software is often cited as an example of social software because of the ease with which users can work together on content, building a real sense of community. </li></ul>

  9. 9. Why should India promote Wikieducator? <ul><li>With about 2/3 of the population needing to be educated, f2f mode cannot meet the demands. </li></ul><ul><li>Access to education should not be a limitation for anyone to study </li></ul>

Why wikieducator? <ul><li>Need for India-centric contexual learning materials – particularly in local languages. </li></ul><ul><li>To tap all diverse knowledge sources </li></ul><ul><li>If India is to take the eleap to self sufficiency in (contexual) educational content there is need for rapid expansion in development of elearn materials – wikieducator can play a major role. </li></ul>
