The USS Akron over Manhattan. Sadly this airship crashed tail-first in to the sea in 1933, killing 73 of the 76 men on board. A blimp sent to rescue them also crashed, killing two more. This is probably why the US Navy don't use airships any more.

The USS Macon's spy bucket! Airships would hide in the clouds and lower this down to see what was going on below without being spotted, kind of like in upside down periscope.

This is what happens when your airship gets caught in a gust of wind and you don't balance it in time. They got it back down again, and it was able to fly the next day.
