1. 1. POEMS!
2. 2. Here is a simple poem:
New shoes
They weren’t comfy
They were so tight
When I looked at them
They gave me a fright
How could this be?
Why would I dare?
To go near these shoes
If they give me a scare?
3. 3. There is actually some things that you may not think about:
New shoes
They weren’t comfy
They were so tight
When I looked at them
They gave me a fright
How could this be?
Why would I dare?
To go near these shoes
If they give me a scare?
4. 4. For instance, take a look at the rhyming in this poem! The rhyming words are in red. Do you notice a pattern?
New shoes
They weren’t comfy
They were so tight
When I looked at them
They gave me a fright
How could this be?
Why would I dare?
To go near these shoes
If they give me a scare?
There is definitely a pattern in this poem! The rhyming words are on the same lines every time! Of you look, the word that is in red first and is on paragraph one ,line two. Then on line four it rhymes with the first word!
5. 5. There is also another effective feature that can be written in a poem, this is the rhetorical questions.
New shoes
They weren’t comfy
They were so tight
When I looked at them
They gave me a fright
How could this be?
Why would I dare?
To go near these shoes
If they give me a scare?
Rhetorical questions are questions that don’t need to be answered. (Or, don’t want to be answered! These are used often in this poem, but only in the second paragraph.
Why could this be? The question I just asked was a rhetorical question. Why do you think the author of the poem has used rhetorical questions in his poem?
6. 6. Features that could be used in a poem:
*Rhyming
Rhyming couplets
Rhyming lines in pattern
*Rhetorical Questions
*Telling a story
*Making it humorous
There are lots of different ways to make poems excellent, not just these!
