    1. Part V  Mount of Olives  The East Gate of Jerusalem  Garden of Gethsemane Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
    2. Mount of Olives Mount of Olives Overlooking to City Of Jerusalem, Dome of the Rock I'm standing on the world's most expensive burial site, Mount of Olives when I took this shot. The little rectangular boxes you see here near the bottom of the photo are the Jewish coffins. The Jews are buried here in this cemetery. Mount of Olives is facing the east side of Jerusalem with the Kidron Valley between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives. They believe that when the Messiah shall come, He shall stand upon the Mount of Olives. The dead will rise up from their coffins, face Jerusalem and see the victory of Messiah for He will save His people from suffering. Zechariah 13: 3-5 3 Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as He fights in the day of battle. 4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem in the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; Half of the mountains shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south. 5 Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the LORD my God will come and all the saints with You. The Temple Mount is actually built on Mount Moriah. Mount Moriah is the place where Abraham wanted to bind Isaac at the top of the Mount as a burnt sacrifice to God. The LORD provided a ram for the burnt offering instead. The complete account can be read in Genesis 22. Because of Abraham's obedience to God, the LORD God says in Genesis 22:17-18 “blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply....In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” The “seed” here refers to Christ. You can read this in Galatians 3: 13-18. There is a topographic map of Jerusalem and some history that you may like to view from the link below. http://www.templemount.org/moriah2.html Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
    3. City Of David At The Centre Of The Photo The City of David is actually outside the walls of Jerusalem. I wonder in the past, how did King David looked down from his roof and saw a beautiful woman bathing. As you can see from this photo, the City of David is on a slope. It's easy for anyone to look downwards. The full story can be found in 2 Samuel 11 and 12. 2 Samuel 11: 2 Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king's house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. As the story goes, David committed adultery with this woman, Bathsheba as she was Uriah's wife. King David actually sent Uriah to the forefront where the battle was the fiercest so that he will be killed. However, David repented what he has done and the LORD God graciously appointed the second son bore by Bathsheba to be the next king after David. (The first son bore by Bathsheba died because of David's sin.) This son is Solomon. King Solomon is the richest man ever lived on planet Earth. You can read David's song of repentance in Psalm 51. Remember Rahab the harlot? She stayed in Jericho and hid the spies sent by Joshua. You can read her account in Joshua 2. Even though she's a harlot (prostitute in other words), but because she believed in the Almighty God and saved the spies, the LORD has given her the privilege of being the great-great grandmother of King David and Jesus our LORD also comes from her line. Truly, our LORD God is a gracious, merciful and compassionate God. You can find the genealogy of Jesus in Matthew 1. Rahab is mentioned in Matthew 1:5 Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
    4. We descended from the Mount of Olives to the Garden of Gethsemane. The Garden of Gethsemane is at the foot of Mount of Olives. The road is very steep as seen from the photo. Luke 19: 37-38 37 Then as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the LORD!” Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Road To Gethsemane Tomb Of The Prophets Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
    5. The East Gate of Jerusalem The East Gate Of Jerusalem This is one of my favorite shots. The East Gate of Jerusalem. She is also known as The Golden Gate. Noticed that the East Gate is shut? This is because of the fulfilling of the prophecy in Ezekiel 44. Ezekiel 44: 1-2 1 Then He brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary which faces toward the east, but it was shut. 2 And the LORD said to me, “This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, and no man shall enter by it, because the LORD God of Israel has entered by it; therefore it shall be shut. Just right outside the East Gate, is the Muslim cemetery. The Arabs bury their dead right at the front of the East Gate. Any wonder why they did just that? Remember the bible prophecy that Christ will return from the Mount of Olives in Zechariah 13: 3-5 ? They too, believe that this bible prophecy will be fulfilled. Therefore, to prevent Jesus from entering Jerusalem by this gate, the Muslims sealed the gate during the reign of Suleiman in the 15 hundred years. However, in doing so, they unknowingly fulfill the prophecy in Ezekiel 44: 2. Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
    6. Hundreds And Hundreds Of Muslim Tombs Right At The East Gate Matthew 23: 37-39 37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 “See! Your house is left to you desolate; 39 “for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!” Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
    7. Garden of Gethsemane Gethsemane means Olive Press. This garden is full of olive trees. Some of these trees witness the tears and blood of Jesus when He prayed in the garden. This is also the place where He was betrayed by Judas Iscariot. John 18: 1, 3 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which He and His disciples entered. 3 Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches and weapons. Garden Of Gethsemane Matthew 26: 36 36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” Luke 22: 44 44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Left: An Old Olive Tree In Garden Of Gethsemane Olive Trees are evergreen and can live to a ripe old age. Some of these trees in the garden are around 2,000 years old and they are witnesses to the tears and the blood of Jesus when He prayed in the Garden. Olive Trees are very resilient to natural attacks. The thickness of the olive tree trunk tells us how old is the tree. In Hebrew culture, olive trees represent peace and happiness. Psalm 128: 3 3 Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house. Your children like olive plants all around your table. Olive oil in the bible means anointing. The verse means our children are anointed. Copyright © 2008 Erin Kwan S.E
