Essentially, goals are like a road map that guide us to our destination and enable us to track our journey. For goal setting to be effective, goals should be clearly defined. In other words, they should be specific, measurable and have a timeline attached to it.
  • Benefits of Setting GoalsOne of the biggest benefits of setting goals is that they allow you to make your dreamsa reality. By setting goals and having a plan to achieve those goals, you bring them intofruition. "Goals are dreams with deadlines."Setting goals helps people bring clarity and focus to what they are doing. Basically, they become your road map to your destination. "People with goals succeed because they know where they are going. Its as simple as that." - Earl NightingaleBy achieving your goals, you bring about more confidence in yourself and are not onlyable to help yourself succeed, but thereby help and influence others succeed.Anyone can set goals, but for goals (i.e. dreams) to become a reality, we must learnhow to set effective goals. One of the ways to go about setting effective goals is usingSMART goals. "A goal without a plan is just a wish." - Larry Elder
  • Setting SMART GoalsSMART is an acronym for:Specific: by making your goals specific, you bring clarity and focusMeasurable: helps you keep track of your progressAttainable: keeps your goals realistic and you motivatedRelevant: keeps the focus on something you truly want to accomplishTime-Bound: helps you set targets with deadlines
  • EXAMPLELets say my goal is to run, now it definitely sounds like a goal, but, but its not a SMARTgoal because:- its not SPECIFIC- may be you can MEASURE it- but its not TIME-BOUNDSo a SMART goal would be:"I want to run 10 km with time 40 min over the next 17 weeks"- it’s SPECIFIC in terms of how much km you want to run- its MEASURABLE /10 km - 40 min/- its ATTAINABLE if you put a plan in place- its RELEVANT to you- its TIME-BOUND because youve attached a timeframe to it "Set your goals high, and dont stop till you get there."
  • Tips to Set & Achieve Your Goals #1: write down your GOALS with specifics - step by step #2: breakdown GOALS into smaller tasks #3: make sure that your GOALS dont conflict with each other #4: surround yourself with positive, like-minded people, share your GOALS with them #5: be flexible and ready to tweak your GOALS #6: reward yourself aſter achieving specific milestones
