  • 3. ZEUS

  • 6. ARTEMIS
    • She is Zeus´s daughter. The Greeks thought that Artemis was the same thing as the moon. She spent a lot of time hunting.
  • 7. POSEIDON
    • He is the god of the ocean. Many Greeks spent a lot of time sailing and fishing in the ocean and they prayed to the god Poseidon before setting sail.
  • 8. APHRODITE
    • She was the goddess of love. She was always falling in love with somebody, or somebody was falling in love with her.
  • 9. ATHENA
    • She is the Greek goddess of wisdom and peace. She has a famous symbol: the owl (the wise bird).
  • 10. DEMETER
    • The goddess of the earth. The Greek farmers used to pray to this goddess because they said that she was able to grow grains like wheat, barley and millet.
  • 11. HERMES
    • He is the messenger of the gods. People always prayed him before they traveled because Hermes can take care of your when you go on a trip.
  • 12. ARES
    • He is the god of war. He causes rage in people and, in consequence, people want to fight.

  • 14. OLYMPIC GAMES
    • The Olympic Games were created over 2,700 years ago, in Greek town called Olympia. The Olympic Games were like a festival. The Greek people believed that they had to be strong, because the Greek gods loved it. So, they created the Olympic Games to become stronger, and in honour of Zeus, the king of the gods.

    • All the cities spent a lot of time selecting the best sportsmen from their cities, and the chosen ones competed against other sportsmen from other cities. Every 5 years the Olympic Games were held in Olympia. At these Games there were a lot of different sport events such as running, jumping, javelin throwing and disc throwing.

    • All the sportsmen demonstrated their strength, but if one contestant lost at the games it meant that the gods didn’t like them.
