One of the Courses 1 - 6 main focuses will lie on the concepts, which have been established within the last years in different trades. End
    48. IDM Courses 7 Production Management Cost Management and 8 Engineering Quality 9 Work Science 10 Strategic Planning 11 In the work of engineers there are a lot of decisions with implications for the costs and rewards for the designs they Project 12 make, the products they work on and the companies they work for. The course addresses various topics of cost Courses 1 - 6 management that are relevant to engineers, with a particular focus on new product development processes End
    49. IDM Courses 7 Production Management Cost Management and 8 Engineering Quality 9 Work Science 10 Strategic Planning 11 Project 12 \"Quality Assurance During Product-Life-Cycle\". 53. Industrial Design and Manufacturing Student’s view
    54. Presentation contents: • Short overview of the past 1,5 years • Twente and Dortmund • Pre-master in Denmark
    55. First year: •Subjects and project • Twente phase •Visits to companies •Milestone meetings
    56. First year: Subjects and project • Dortmund phase Milestone meetings Workshops Differences in teaching and examinations
    57. First year: • Dortmund phase
    58. Twente and Dortmund phase: • Subjects International master, everything in English • Project • ... Corresponding in (technical) meetings is difficult at first, but you learn fast. Even the teachers sometimes have a hard time!
    59. Overall conclusion: 1. Twente phase was hard work and more theoretical 2. Dortmund phase was more relaxed (due to hard work in Twente phase) and more practical
    60. IDM group 2004/2005 consisted of: • 13 Dutch • 1 Mexican • 1 Thai 2 projectgroups In Dortmund all in 1 ‘house’
    61. Due to a renovation of the dorm for foreign students in Dortmund Accomodation in Witten, 9 km south-west of Dortmund House in Witten was also renovated
    62. Project: Lamp changer “…Design and develop a prototype for a device which can change a variety of lamps at a height of 5 meters both straight and under an angle …” Compared to former assignments, not really challenging. But,
    63. • More time: • to implement the given subjects into the project • to develop a perfect drawing package • to test and adjust the prototype • to find a suitable internship • to do fun things (going out in Dortmund, BBQ in March, sports)
    64. Team A Team B
    65. Time to start with the internship Pre-master • 6 i.s.o. 3 months • 30 i.s.o. 15 ECTS • Report and presentation i.s.o.just a report • Broader assignment • More depth is expected from the UT.
    66. Pre master: Company: Scandinavian Micro Biodevices (SMB), Farum, Denmark Products: Plastic strips containing ‘micro fluidic systems’ (Comparable with test strips for diabetes patients)
    67. Pre master: Technology: Ultrasonic welding Assignment: The development of design rules for ‘energy directors’ used in the assembly of polystyrene parts by means of ultrasonic welding.
    68. Ultrasonic welding: “…joining method which uses the principles of acoustics to create frictional heat and produce a molecular bond between two plastic materials…“
    69. Energy directors: ”V-shaped protrusions which direct the ultrasonic vibrations to initiate welding at a specific line” •Top angle •Height
    70. Bad weld Good weld
    71. Eventually a test piece was designed and produced
    72. Result • Assignment shifted to gain a better understanding of the behaviour of energy directors when ultrasonically welded. • Interaction between machine and welding parameters was investigated • Submitting design recommendations for energy directors to the design team at SMB
    73. 01-09-2005 untill 29-01-2006 Approximately 1400 photographs, and loads of stories
    74. IDM - WB Praktijk i.p.v. research gericht Enige master met projectaanpak Extra eisen t.o.v. internationalisatie Stage afstuderen – Stage 15 EC, Master 45 AC – Pre-master 30 EC, Master 30 EC
