      Dissertation Writing: A Systematic Approach
With the amount of work that it involves, working on a dissertation can be an overwhelming task. It is easy to get carried away. Hence, it is important that graduate students know how to keep their focus and manage their time wisely.  The following is a systemic approach to dissertation writing which students can adopt: 1.Do pre-dissertation studies Even before you are asked to work on a dissertation you need to be doing initial research already. For instance, you should be brainstorming already of the topic that you might wish to pursue. You should also be reading books and dissertation papers in order to get an idea on how to work on your own research. 2. Select a topicThis is one of the most crucial stages in dissertation writing. Thinking of a topic means that you have to choose one that you are genuinely interested in, this way even though you will spend months with the research work you will not get bored and stop midway. Furthermore, you have to consider the feasibility of the thesis topic that you will be choosing. Ensure that you will ample resources, sufficient time to finish your study, and of course enough financial budget to see your work through. 3. Create a schedule and breakdown of tasksOnce you have a topic to work on it is now imperative that you try to create a schedule and timeline of deliverables. Because you can get overwhelmed with the amount of work needed to complete your scholarly work it is advisable that you break them down into simple tasks. What you can do is to schedule activities and target dates for completion. Doing so will enable you to monitor the progress of your dissertation while keeping you in track of what has been done and what still needs to be done. 4. Maintain constant communication with the dissertation adviserMake it a point to pay a visit to your dissertation adviser as he or she has the responsibility of guiding you with your research work. Also, by updating your adviser on your progress, he or she will be able to tell whether you are right on track or have gone astray. Note down the comments and suggestions of your adviser. 5. Revise the dissertation as neededIncorporate the suggestions that your adviser has given you. Take advantage of this opportunity to make your work better. Being the expert on the field, your adviser knows what is best for your study.6. Defend the research workAfter editing, revising, reading, editing and proofreading again be prepared to defend your dissertation to the panel. Be confident and keep this in mind: no one else knows your dissertation more than you do because you are the one who has been working on it since day one. With this, cheer up and put up a brave front to the crowd. If graduate students were to follow this systematic approach to dissertation writing then they will find out how to make the most out of their time. At the end day, it’s all about being able to maximize your time and resources. After all, you would not want to delay your much-awaited graduate degree right?
