  • 3. What is it?  BS-IT with specialization in Game Design is very different from mainstream IT  It is more inclined into games – how to design, develop and program them  It is mixed with science and art “Possibly one of the most challenging courses since it has both Science and Art into it”
  • 4. Why do people choose this? Gaming is like a piece of cake People love eating cakes But not everybody likes baking them

  • 7. Designer    Designs the game play, rules and structure of the game Takes the role of the writer in the game’s dialogue Makes the game mechanics, user interface, characters, etc
  • 8. Artist  Creates the game’s art  May be 2D or 3D oriented, concept art, sprites, textures, environmental backdrops, or user interface
  • 9. Programmer  Software engineer who develops the game’s software  Develops the game’s codebase
  • 10. Level designer  Creates levels, challenges or missions in the game  Can work with both incomplete or complete versions of the game
  • 11. Sound Engineer  Responsible for sound effects and sound positioning  Oversees the voice acting
  • 12. Tester  Carries the quality assurance  Analyzes the game to document software defects  Ensures that the game is patterned with the proposed designed
  • 13. Game Genres
  • 14. Fighting What? – player engages on a close combat with an opponent How? – Player can choose a character to be used in battle. Each characters has its own unique skills. The player would use different techniques on their character to attack, block, counter-attack and combo
  • 15. Example: Tekken 6 eighth Tekken series. It features a number of fighters, each equipped with their own deadly techniques, martial art moves, and attack combinations.
  • 16. Adventure and Action Adventure What? – player takes the role of a protagonist in a story as he explores and solve puzzles How? – there are different elements that the hero (the character) undergoes through the genre like interactive story, puzzle solving, exploration, collection of objects
  • 17. Example: The Legend of Zelda high fantasy actionadventure video game series created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.
  • 18. Strategy What? – requires decision-making skills and awareness of the situation How? – Players are faced with strategic, tactical, logistical challenges that would usually engage the players in criticalthinking
  • 19. Example: (tactical role-playing game) Disgaea video game series of tactical roleplaying games created and developed by Nippon Ichi
  • 20. Survival Horror What? – subgenre of action-adventure inspired by horror How? – Players undergo combat with limited ammunition, health, speed, etc. having the main goal to survive
  • 21. Example: Silent Hill s a survival horror video game series consisting of nine installments published by Konami and its subsidiary Konami Digital Entertainment
  • 22. MMO What? – Massive Multi-player Online How? – Players are connected through the internet and they could socialize with each other through the game (such as party, pvp, etc.)
  • 23. Example: (MMO-Action RPG) Dragon Nest (My Character :>)
  • 24. RPG What? – players assume the role of a character in a story How? – players would build their character through allocating points for stats, customization, quests, leveling-up and experience
  • 25. Example: Pokemon Pokemon is a game wherein you can catch, train and battle with monsters called Pokemon
  • 26. Music What? – gameplay involves player’s interaction with musical scores or songs How? - There would usually be corresponding keys and when pressed at the right time, it would produce its own sound
  • 27. Example: Patapon In Patapon you are usually sent out to fulfill a mission and you can give commands through pressing the buttons like Pata Pata Pata Pon to walk. You should follow the beat to make a successful command.
  • 28. Shooter (FPS) What? – First-person Shooter involves a character played in the first-person perspective How? – the objective of the game is to shoot opponents and complete the mission without your character dying
  • 29. Example: Left 4 Dead L4D is a coopera tive firstperson shooter arcadestyle video game.
