Everonn Education Limited:<br />E-Vidya Project: A combination of computer education, computer aided education and VSAT based education in 206 schools across Dhanora and Khukeda taluks of Gadchiroli district.<br />Brief Description of the Project: The project is to introduce Instructional Computing Technology (ICT)in schools of Gadchiroli District. Gadchiroli is a district in the state of Maharastra. It has 12 taluks and more than 78% of the land area is covered with reserve and protected forest and is a noted region for anti-social and naxalite activities. Many upliftment programs are being introduced by the District Collectorate and one amongst them is the e-Vidya project. <br />To implement this project, Everonn signed an MoU with the district collectorate inJanuary 2010. Computer aided learning and computer education projects commenced from July 2010 and the VSAT studio was inaugurated and functional sinceAugust 2010.<br />This project is a combination of computer education, computer aided education and VSAT based education in 206 schools across Dhanora and Khukeda taluks of Gadchiroli district. For classes 1 to 4 computer aided learning programs are being implemented by setting up an Audio Visual lab in each school. For classes 5 to 8, computer aided learning and also computer education program is being implemented by setting up separate Audio Visual lab and Computer Lab in the schools. For classes 9 to 12, computer education program and VSAT based programs are implemented. <br />For VSAT based programs, a sophisticated hi-tech VSAT Studio is built inside the premises of Gadchiroli ITI. In 36 schools of the two taluks, VSAT classrooms are set for the students to attend sessions taught across the VSAT Studio. Expert teachersidentified by the education department conduct the classes from the VSAT studio and students attend the VSAT classes from their respective schools where VSAT facility is arranged Through VSAT, English, Maths, Science and Social Science scheduled classes are conducted for classes 9, 10, 11 and 12. <br />In January 2011, VSAT based education was extended to 12 Govt ITI’s (Industrial Training Institutes) across all the 12 taluks of Gadchiroli by setting up VSAT classrooms in each of the 12 ITIs.<br />Why was the project started?<br />
To introduce computer education and use ICT in schools.
To find solutions to the non-availability of qualified subject teachers in high schools and higher secondary schools.
To ensure access of good subject teachers to students across the country
To develop an interest amongst students to attend classes by the use of technology.
To use Technology as a tool to promote education and provide this service to people of all classes.

This is the first VSAT based education delivery happening in Government schools in India through PPP model.
Implementation of VSAT based education in the tribal and undeveloped district of Gadchiroli where most of the land is untouched, covered with forest and hills.
The district is well known for naxalite activities, so access to high quality education is a dream come true in these areas.
Many of the interior villages and schools where project is implemented had no mobile or internet connectivity.
Various community awareness and development programs are being conducted through this VSAT platform.
Technical education for the ITI is delivered in all the 12 taluks
Local govt. administrators are using the VSAT platform for monitoring and taking review of various government schemes and related work from remotely located talukas. Once or twice a month senior officers like CEO of Zilla Parishad, RDC (Residence District Collector) or heads of other departments visit the VSAT studio to conduct live reviews for the twelve talukas across this platform where , officers like Tahesildar, BDO (Block Development officer) are present. The official from the studio conducts the review for various on-going projects. This helps to give them immediate solutions for the problem they face.

Making the best teacher of the district available to thousands of students across different locations.
Immense improvement in the quality of the students. They have become more confident and do not hesitate to ask questions to the teacher. They also actively participate in the open questions/ quiz conducted from the studio during the VSAT sessions. It has also created a good spirit of competition among the students of the 36 schools and 12 ITIs.
Health, adult literacy, child and woman development, agriculture, animal husbandry, safety awareness, gram panchayat and irrigation related programs are conducted by the respective department heads and experts. Programs are conducted at scheduled timings from the studio and village administrators mobilise the public to attend the sessions in the nearby VSAT classrooms.
We have conducted about five sessions on cleanliness and hygiene to educate the masses on the benefits of the same.
Four sessions on AIDS awareness was conducted through VSAT platform which is truly beneficial for creating awareness amongst the villagers.
Dignitaries and Ministers are interacting with the masses through the VSAT platform when they visit Gadchiroli.
List the 5 key challenges faced while implementing the project and how they were overcome:<br />
Logistic Challenge: Free movement from school to school to implement the project was a big challenge considering the safety of the working personnel as the project was implemented in the naxalite affected taluks. Most of the time Govt officials had to accompany our implementation team to move from place to place.
Availability of Skilled Manpower: Getting qualified computer teachers were a big challenge. The best available candidates were selected and underwent a special training program.
Internet connectivity: The computer labs we supplied with N-computing sharing terminals required online registration. Since mobile connectivity, internet connectivity was not available in many schools, we were forced to move the equipment to the location where connectivity was available to do the online registration.
Training rural teachers: The teachers from the rural schools were not exposed to computers and technology. They only followed the traditional medium ofchalk and blackboard. Training the teachers to take live classes from the studio in front of the camera without students was a big challenge. Several training programs were conducted in the various aspects of studio based teaching.
Broadband connectivity: There was no terrestrial connectivity up to the studio in Gadchiroli from our VSAT service provider. Then alternate arrangements were made through the other service providers to give terrestrial connectivity from Nagpur to Gadchiroli.

Taking the sessions ofthe best subject experts to all the students across the district is one of prominent feature to take it as a model for replication.
The platform, technology, deliverable are proven and VSAT class rooms are deployed in more than 800 locations across the country by Everonn.
