  • Brinell hardness is determined by forcing a hard steel or carbide sphere of a specified diameter under a specified load into the surface of a material and measuring the diameter of the indentation left after the test.TheBrinell hardness number, or simply the Brinell number, is obtained by dividing the load used, in kilograms, by the actual surface area of the indentation, in square millimeters

  • 1. Hardness test
  • 2. Hardness test• Resistance to indentation and its relevant to floor and wall surface.• determined by measuring the permanent depth of the indentation. More simply put, when using a fixed force (load) and a given indenter• Indentation hardness value is obtained by measuring the depth or the area of the indentation
  • 3. Why do we need test• To determine the hardness of materials
  • 4. Hardness testing method• The Brinell test• The vickers pyramid hardness
  • 5. The brinell test• Hardened steel ball is forced( suitable standard load) into the surface of test-piece• The diameter of impression is measured by using calibrated microscope• The full test load is applied for 10-15 sec• Measuring of two diagonals of round indent
  • 6. The vicker pyramid method• Consists of indenting test material using diamond• Forms of right pyramid square based(vicker scale) and angle of 136 degree• Normal load applied for 10-15 sec• Two diagonal of identation left in the surface are measured
  • 7. HV = Constant x test force / indent diagonal squared
  • 8. advantage• Easier than other hardness test since required calculation independent the size of indenter• are that extremely accurate readings can be taken• More expensive than brinell test
