• 1. DATA MEASUREMENT Learning Outcomes: At the end of the lesson you should be able to describe the units of data measurements such as Kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte, Terabyte Prepared by : Norhasimah Mohamed – Head of Information & Communication Technology Panel, SMK Sungai Pusu, Gombak 2007
• 2. Data measurement
• In mathematics, 1KB = 1000 bytes.
• In computer,
• KILOBYTE (KB) –: 1 KB = 2 ¹º bytes
• 1 KB = 1024 bytes or
• MEGABYTE (MB) -: 1 MB = 2²º bytes
• 1MB = 1 048 576 bytes
• GIGABYTE (GB) -: 1 GB = 2³º bytes
• 1GB = 1 073 741 824 bytes
• TERABYTE (TB) -: 1 TB = 2 º bytes
• 1TB = 1 099 511 627776 bytes
• 3.
• 4. CLOCK SPEED MEASUREMENT Learning Outcomes: At the end of the lesson you should be able to describe the units of clock speed measurement .
• 5. Clock Speed Measurement
• HERTZ AND SECONDS
• 1 hertz = 1 cycle
• 1 second
• MEGAHERTZ (MHz) -million
• 1 MHz = 1 000 000 cycles
• 1 second
• GIGAHERTZ (GHz) -billion
• 1 GHz = 1 000 000 000 cycles

• 7. INPUT
• A) There are four types of input:
• Text
• Graphic
• Audio
• Video
• B) Please give at least 2 example for :
• Input device for texts – keyboard, stylus, optical reader, bar code reader, data glove
• Input device for graphic – scanner, digital camera, drawing tablet,
• Input device for audio – microphone, MIDI keyboard, speech recognition,
• Input device for video – videocam, image scanner, 3d scanner, cctv, digital video camera,
• C) OUTPUT DEVICE -
• D) i) what is peripheral device? – is any device attached to a computer in order to expands its functionality.
• ii) Give example for peripheral device –printers, scanners, disk drives, tape drives, microphone, speakers and cameras.

• output device for texts –
• output device for graphic –
• output device for audio –
• output device for video –
• 10. Input device for text
• Data glove -These devices are used with one or both hands to enter text either by measuring accelerations/rotations of the forearm and flexations of the fingers (gesture recognition) or in a more traditional way by working as a keyboard, whose buttons are attached to the glove - or combinations of these.
• 11. Input device for audio
• Speech recognition - Speech recognition (in many contexts also known as automatic speech recognition , computer speech recognition or erroneously as voice recognition ) is the process of converting a speech signal to a sequence of words, by means of an algorithm implemented as a computer program.
• Speech recognition applications that have emerged over the last few years include voice dialing ( e.g. , "Call home"), call routing ( e.g. , "I would like to make a collect call"), simple data entry ( e.g. , entering a credit card number), preparation of structured documents (e.g., a radiology report), domotic appliances control and content-based spoken audio search ( e.g. find a podcast where particular words were spoken).
• Voice recognition or speaker recognition is a related process that attempts to identify the person speaking, as opposed to what is being said.

• 12. PERIPHERAL DEVICE
• C) i) what is peripheral device? – is any device attached to a computer in order to expands its functionality.
• ii) Give example for peripheral device –printers, scanners, disk drives, tape drives, microphone, speakers and cameras.
