Technology applications in the Science Classroom
Technology can be used as a tool to take the students in the Science labs to places that they could never go; it can allow them to see things that normally we could never bring into the lab. The students in the classrooms of today have grown up with technology and in most cases are more comfortable using it than not. Reasons for using technology in the classroom.
Technology also allows students to make real life connections to what they learn in the classroom and the lab to the outside world.
Technology can help supplement the curriculum for ELL students.
Technology can also help supplement the curriculum for disabled students.
The exact reproduction of colors – just like the user can see them through his microscope – as well as the display of finest details due to high resolutions of the ProgRes® digital microscope cameras grant their outstanding applicability for demanding image analysis and reliable image documentation in microscopic and macroscopic working environments. High frame rates provide fast live images, thus offering easy workflow and convenient use of these microscope cameras. The color or monochrome scientific cameras of the ProgRes® research camera range are optionally cooled and have been optimized for the tasks in scientific areas and meet the high requirements of low-light level camera applications! Examples of technologies being used in the classroom
The Next Generation Interactive Whiteboard that offers a true collaborative learning experience. The ActivBoard 500 Pro system, an essential part of Promethean’s ActivClassroom, raises the standard for interactive display systems with its intuitive pen + touch capability.  Students today expect the ability to engage interactively with information and technology. The ActivBoard 500 Pro’s new pen and touch technology and Windows 7 provides access to rich and engaging content creating an exciting classroom experience. The new ActivBoard 500 Pro interactive whiteboard system seamlessly integrates with a full range of ActivClassroom solutions and content.
Mobi View™ is the first of its kind to offer a large LCD touch screen that provides the ability to control your lessons from anywhere in the classroom, so there is no need to go back to your computer during a lesson. In fact, with Mobi View™ there's no need for a fixed interactive whiteboard. E-Slate
Graphing calculators and calculator-based laboratory equipment are great tools for teaching integrated math and science. They promote inquiry learning and are relatively inexpensive. Graphing calulator
An example of a rather ordinary but still effective use of technology is the overhead projector instead of the chalkboard. This allows the teacher to type up notes or diagrams that s/he would then give to the students and make transparencies of. Then, when it's time to lecture on the material, the students can follow along on their sheet while also looking at the projected image. An example of this is when we taught DNA replication. We distributed a diagram of the process to each student. In addition, we made a transparency of the diagram to display in the front of the classroom. This was much easier than our drawing the diagram on the board and having the students copy it. We could simply make notes on the transparency and point out key features of the process as we projected the image for students to follow. Projectors
