To accomplish this, VisionID has a designated team of Engineers to provide all your needs with our new Service and Support Department. VisionID not only guarantees great products, it also offers several service options for its customers. The Service and Support Department can offer on-site and workshop repairs, consultancy on configurations, set-ups and for complete peace of mind, service contracts that will provide customers with preventative maintenance and breakdown cover. We can also offer manufacturer service plans on mobile computers and scanning equipment. VisionID engineers are the best trained in the business and all are accredited by our manufacturing partners. Professional Services VisionID’s Professional Service Department are able to deal with specific requirements over and above servicing of equipment. From mobile applications coupled with wireless network instillations to process improvement consultancy, we can manage your projects from start to finish delivering improvements to your business. VisionID provide a range of onsite and return to base service and support offerings to ensure peace of mind. On-site Maintenance Contracts VisionID’s on-site maintenance contracts give you the reassurance that your equipment is covered by world-class engineering services. Benefits include limited down time due to our dedicated team of engineering professionals. Being a certified service partner with a large number of leading global vendors, we supply and fit only OEM spare parts for repairs. There are two onsite annual service plans that can be purchased:  A standard 2 day response.  A next day response. Our annual service plans include all travel, labour and non-consumable parts. We also include two on-site preventive maintenance visits per year. Non-Contract Maintenance VisionID’s Service Centre offers on-site preventative maintenance and repair works for equipment not covered through VisionID’s service plans. For this service there is an initial call out charge and an hourly rate, parts and print head charges where applicable. It is VisionID’s policy to prioritise contract call-outs over non-contract. However, VisionID will ensure that an engineer calls to your premises at the earliest opportunity. Depot Maintenance Contracts If you do not require an on-site maintenance contract and have equipment that needs servicing or repairing, this can be sent to VisionID’s Service Department. From our Central Service centre in Clonmel, our highly trained in-house engineers can repair and service equipment. Our Depot Service Plan will give a speedy turn around for all your repairs and service needs. Depot Service Plans include all non-consumable parts, labour and standard return shipping charges. We also offer a non-contract depot repair, which offers the same excellent level of service, excluding cost of non-consumable parts, labour and standard shipping. A Barcode is an encoded set of lines and spaces of different widths that can be scanned and interpreted into numbers to identify a product. There are 2 types of barcodes Linear and Data Matrix Linear Barcode Also known as a 1D Barcode it is a machine readable code consisting of a series of bars and spaces printed in defined ratios. Barcode symbology is essentially alphabets in which different widths of bars and spaces are combined to form characters and, ultimately, a message. Because there are many ways to arrange these bars and spaces, numerous symbologies are possible. Data Matrix or 2D barcodes A Data Matrix code, also known as a 2D barcode or simply a 2D code, is a two-dimensional way of representing information. It is similar to a linear barcode, but has more data representation capability, consisting of black and white square modules arranged in either a square or rectangular pattern. The information to be encoded can be text or raw data. The length of the encoded data depends on the symbol dimension used. Error correction codes are added to increase symbol strength: even if they are partially damaged, they can still be read. A Data Matrix symbol can store up to 2,335 alphanumeric characters. Every Data Matrix is composed of at least two finder patterns or handles and two syncs. Handles are two perpendicular lines, coloured the same way as 1 module, while syncs are like handles with the difference that they are made of alternating black and white modules. Handles achieve a good alignment with the symbol, while syncs sample modules correctly. If the matrix dimension grows, more syncs and handles are added up to 8 both horizontally and vertically. Symbol sizes vary from 8 × 8 to 144 × 144 Types of Barcode Scanners Handheld Handheld scanners are best used in applications where the user is required to scan items of varying shapes or sizes, or may be at a distance from the operator, such as pallet stored on the top of a warehouse rack. Direct Part Marking (DPM) Product Guide Verification is required in many instances to check the quality of code, particularly at time of marking. This can provide immediate feedback as to any changes to the marking process. For example, the verifier can monitor tip wear on a dot peen machine by monitoring dot size, and flag the operator. At the marking stage, during the manufacturing process and throughout the products lifecycle, the mark will be required to be read. Depending on the situation and the environment, this could be with a handheld reader tethered to a host computer or with a remote Bluetooth connection. Machine vision is the technology to replace or complement manual inspections and measurements with digital cameras and image processing. In robot bin picking applications the camera finds a reference coordinate on the object, for example center of gravity or a corner, and then sends the information to a robot which picks up the object. Measure In measurement applications the purpose of the vision system is to measure physical dimensions of the object. Examples of physical dimensions are distance, diameter, curvature, area, height, and volume. In the example to the left, a camera measures multiple diameters of cogs. Inspect In inspection applications the purpose of the vision system is to validate certain features, for example presence or absence of a correct label on a bottle, screws in an assembly, chocolates in a box, or defects. The concept was developed for operation of process control instrumentation in hazardous areas. There is a European Directive, called the ATEX Directive No.1992/92, and is concerned with the risks from fire and explosion arising from flammable substances stored or used in the workplace. Passive Tags A Passive tag does not contain a battery. When radio waves from the reader reach the chip’s antenna, the energy is converted by the antenna into electricity that can power up the microchip in the tag. Barcode Label Printers Product Guide Barcode Label Printers The main printer types revolve around the printing technology incorporating Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer. Direct Thermal Printing Direct thermal printing is an old technology originally designed for low cost copiers and fax machines that utilise chemically coated paper. It has since been transformed into a highly successful technology for bar coding. The thermal print head is typically a long linear array of tiny resistive heating elements (about 100 to 300 per inch) that are arranged perpendicular to the paper flow. Each thermal print head element locally heats an area on the chemically coated paper directly under the print area. This induces a chemical reaction which causes a black dot to form in that area. The image itself is formed by building it from dot rows as the media passes underneath the active edge of the print head. Direct thermal printing is ideal for applications with a short shelf life requirement – meaning the label is not required to last very long. Thermal Transfer Printing Thermal transfer printers use the same basic technology as direct thermal printers, but with the elimination of chemically-coated media material in favor of a non-sensitised face stock and a special linked ribbon. A durable, polyester ribbon film coated with a dry thermal transfer ink is placed between the thermal print head and label. The thermal print head is used to transcribe the ink onto the label surface, where it cools and anchors to the media surface. The polyester ribbon is then peeled away leaving behind a stable, passive image. Thermal transfer printing is ideal for applications with a along shelf life and durability requirement.
