African Americans Between 1900 and 1920 the African American neighborhoods doubled. They brought with them not only the institution and business neccessary to support themselves but a vast array of talents and ambitions. This area soon became known as "The Black Mecca" and "The Capital of Black America."
  11. 11. LEAGUES!! UNIA-ACL The Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities advocated the reuniting of all people of African ancestory into one community. NUL National Urban League trained blacks to work and to get an education.
  12. 12. Slavery Slavery and oppression were the two main reasons that African Americans started the Harlem Renaissance.
  13. 13. What Happened During One of the best speakeasies was a cotton club where only African American entertainers could perform at them. Most performed Jazz at these clubs.
  14. 14. COTTON CLUBOne of the mostfamous cotton clubswas a famous jazzmusic nightclub located inthe Harlemneighborhood of NewYork City whichoperated from 1923 to1940.
