  5. 5. TOTAL INTERNAL REFLECTION When light travelling in an opticallydense medium hits a boundary at an anglelarger than the "critical angle" for themedia, the light will be completelyreflected. This is called total internalreflection. Fiber optic cables use total internalreflection inside the optical fiber.
