Draw a circle on the slide (hold down the shift key to get a perfect shape!
PowerPoint 2003
Go to the Fill Colour button and select No Fill. Go to the Line Colour button and select the white colour.
PowerPoint 2007
Go to the ShapeFill button and select No Fill. Go to the Shape OutLine button and select the white colour.
Right click somewhere else on the page and select Format Background. Change Fill colour to Black.

Stage Three
You will need to remove it by clicking on the Transparent button
PowerPoint 2003
Click on Graphic, if picture menu is not there then go to View –Toolbars –Picture. Click on Transparent button.
Click on White part of graphic.
PowerPoint 2007
Click on Graphic, click on Format tab. Click on Recolor button. Click on Set Transparent Color button.
Click on White part of graphic.

PowerPoint 2007
Click on Animations tab
Turn off the Mouse click
And tick in the Automatically After
PowerPoint 2003
Go to Slide Transition in the Task Pane
Turn off the Mouse click
And tick in the Automatically After
Click on the Slideshow
Button to see the animation
