  • 6. We believe the OSC Action Center isa point of access which illuminates theintersection of Portland’s vast strides inresponsible and progressive technologieswith its environmentally thoughtful, bottom-up, community based citizen’s movements.
  • 7. The Action Center’s role at the OSC isto tell the story of sustainability inPortland through two lenses —technological innovationand grassroots DIY;it is designed to bridge the gaps betweenthese two visionsof a self-sufficientfuture.
  • 8. The main themes of theOSC Action Center are:1. Empowerment through Information2. Interactivity and Interconnectedness3. Adaptivity
  • 9. 1. Empowerment through Information: providingtangible, practical next steps towards a sustainable future.
  • 10. 2. Interactivity and Interconnectedness: The OSC is theplace to discover that we’re all in this together! It’s theplace to come together, get inspired by one another’sstories, informed by new ideas and information, and stepup our engagement towards a shared vision for the future.
  • 11. 3. Adaptivity: As the living building adapts to the world,it’s inhabitants adapt to it. The OSC Action Center isdesigned to spark action towards adapting our lives andbehaviors to the urgent issue of our time: matching ouruse of natural resources with the earth’s capacity tosustain us.
  • 12. 10 small ideas on howthe OSC ActionCenter will start tocome to life are:1. Including naturalsensory elements thatbring the natural worldinto the experience.
  • 13. 2. Interactive, human-scaled opportunities to play andexplore the building close up.
  • 14. 3. Looking at innovative solutions through avariety of lenses, providing a diversity ofperspectives for interpretation and learning.
  • 15. 4. Creatively interactingwith a map of the City ofPortland.
  • 16. 5. Temporal meeting spaces invite small enclaveswithin the greater space.
  • 17. 6. Providing an experience of how theparts create a breathtaking whole.
  • 18. 7. Telling the story of the building in way thatdelights! Illuminating the technologies that enliventhe building.
  • 19. 8. Providing a platformfor community portraitsto be displayed,generating an on-goingarchive of local stories.
  • 20. 9. Telling the story of landscape, place,memory and experience.
  • 21. 10. Fluidity of movement and flowthroughout the space.
