  • 1. Davy Crockett Saves the World Did you know there is a Davy Crockett State Park in Greene County, Tennessee? It is where he was born.
  • 2. advertisement -a public notice that recommends a product or service I was looking at an advertisement in the paper. They were having a yard sale. Why would someone want to sell their yard? It didn’t make any sense to me…
  • 3. sauntered -walked slowly or leisurely We sauntered through the zoo. We didn’t want to miss anything.
  • 4. commenced -started or began The man shot the starting pistol and the race commenced . Um, isn’t there something wrong with this picture?
  • 5. elected -chosen by voters George W. Bush was elected president in 2000. What is unusual is that he did not get the most votes. More people actually voted for Al Gore. However, our system of the electoral college allowed Bush to win.
  • 6. wring -hold onto something tightly and twist it You can wring a towel to get some of the water out.
  • 7. impress -you have a strong effect on someone; they like it Telling a lie doesn’t really impress anyone. The truth is always better. And then I met the President and he said that I was so smart that I should tell him what to do… Really? No, you didn’t…
  • 8. original- it has something to do with the origin or beginning of something I liked the original Karate Kid movie better than the new one.
  • 9. fireball -a very bright sphere made of hot dust, gas, and vapor particles As the fire breather spit a huge fireball , I was wondering if he had bad breath. Perhaps he would like a breath mint.
