  • 2. Applauded- showed approval; clapped<br />When something is applauded, it is praised, usually by clapping.<br />We applaudedthe band’s performance.<br />When are some times that you have applauded? <br />
  • 3. Headlines - lines printed at the top of a newspaper or magazine article<br />The headlines of newspaper articles are the titles.<br />When I am in a hurry, I have time to read only the headlines.<br />How are headlines and chapter titles alike and different?<br />
  • 4. Unstable-easily moved; not firmly fixed<br />If something is unstable, it is unsteady .<br />The house my little brother made with building blocks was unstable.<br />What is an antonym for unstable?<br />
  • 5. Glider– an aircraft that flies without a motor<br />A glider is a very lightweight plane that rides on air currents instead of using a motor.<br />We watched the glider dip and soar with the wind<br />How is a glider similar to and different from a kite?<br />
  • 6. Wingspan- the distance between one wing tip and the other on an airplane<br />A bird’s or plane’s wingspan is the distance between its outer wing tips.<br />The eagle has an impressive wingspan.<br />Name another animal that has a wingspan.<br />
  • 7. Assured– made certain<br />When something is assured, it is guaranteed or certain.<br />I was assured that my sister would pick me up after ball practice.<br />How might being assured make you feel?<br />
  • 8. Hoisting – lifting or pulling up<br />If you are hoisting something, you are lifting a heavy object.<br />The tow truck was hoisting the car into the air.<br />What kind of machines are used for hoisting?<br />
