    Vocabulary
  • Applauded- showed approval; clapped
    When something is applauded, it is praised, usually by clapping.
    We applaudedthe band’s performance.
    When are some times that you have applauded?
  • Headlines - lines printed at the top of a newspaper or magazine article
    The headlines of newspaper articles are the titles.
    When I am in a hurry, I have time to read only the headlines.
    How are headlines and chapter titles alike and different?
  • Unstable-easily moved; not firmly fixed
    If something is unstable, it is unsteady .
    The house my little brother made with building blocks was unstable.
    What is an antonym for unstable?
  • Glider– an aircraft that flies without a motor
    A glider is a very lightweight plane that rides on air currents instead of using a motor.
    We watched the glider dip and soar with the wind
    How is a glider similar to and different from a kite?
  • Wingspan- the distance between one wing tip and the other on an airplane
    A bird’s or plane’s wingspan is the distance between its outer wing tips.
    The eagle has an impressive wingspan.
    Name another animal that has a wingspan.
  • Assured– made certain
    When something is assured, it is guaranteed or certain.
    I was assured that my sister would pick me up after ball practice.
    How might being assured make you feel?
  • Hoisting – lifting or pulling up
    If you are hoisting something, you are lifting a heavy object.
    The tow truck was hoisting the car into the air.
    What kind of machines are used for hoisting?
