    3. 3. Essential questionsWhat is culture? What is Bruneian culture about? What are the challenges to preserving culture?
    4. 4. Essential questions answersCulture is the characteristics of a particular group ofpeople, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. The culture of Brunei is very similar to Malaycultures, influenced by demographic makeup of thecountry.Modernization is the main challenge in preservingculture.
    5. 5. Interview Questions1. Do people start weaving young? When did youstart weaving?2. What material do you use to weave?3. Is it difficult to weave? Can you improve?
    6. 6. Answers from our interviewee 1. Yes, I started at age 7. 2. I use Daun Napuh. 3. Yes, but once you slowly progress further you’ll get better.
    7. 7. Culture The people of Brunei keep their culture very much alive in many ways while still embracing the future. The houses at Kampung Ayer on stilts, the traditional welcome of various traditional Brunei snacks and yet the houses all have internet wifi, air-con etc. to dm other rGran daughte grand
    8. 8. Rivers Brunei culture is very closely tied with the rivers and seas aroundthem. The stories like the boy who was cursed by his mother, their ways of fishing and crabbing and the fact that they live on or next to the rivers which supply their food and drink. The ‘Titanic of Brunei’. A stone the shape of a ship.
    9. 9. Weaving Bruneian culture includes weaving. The weaving can be simple designs like the cloth sample or the intricate patterns on the traditional wedding dresses.Weaving can be hard workespecially because it takesa long time to make even just 1meter of cloth with any design. Gabriel trying out the traditional weaving machine
    10. 10. Solutions to preserving heritageDue to modernity, machines have now replaced most of theold traditions of hand making the cloth as machines are fastand efficient. The traditional methods are laborious andand inefficient and hence many people favor machines tohand making cloth. So, if we want to preserve the at ofweaving, there are a few possible ways to do so.
    11. 11. Solutionsthe art fromOne way is to practice and learnexperienced professionals.Secondly, we could set up weaving clubs at our schoolsso as to encourage and publicize the traditional way ofweaving.Thirdly, the most important reason that we need topreserve culture is because culture is part of ourancestors’ rituals. This is respectful to them and helpsus to become a better person through cultivating ofmoral values.
