The Share Wales Flickr Group is an image pool intended to allow photo sharing between tourism organisations and businesses, and to serve as a resource for online journalists, travel writers and publishers. The Group is a primary source of visual content for Visit Wales, the tourism marketing arm of the Welsh Government. Photographs shared with the Group link directly back to the originating Flickr account, profile, web site link(s) and the rest. The Group is therefore a powerful tool for distributing high quality images that will grab attention and track back to contributors, their businesses and the services they offer.

    4. The big ideaDigital marketing is simpler than most people would like to make out. It’s allabout content and distribution. Getting the right content in front of the rightcustomer at the right time in their decision making represents the holy grail.Whether it be a video that inspires and evokes that Hey, lets try Walesmoment, or a journalists blog around ten places for the perfect Valentinesbreak, great content is what works on the internet. We would love to see anyone and everyone involved in Wales tourismopening up their content and sharing it online. That includes our visitors too.All we need to do is make a few small changes to the way we work and theway we work with content.Great content is the currency of the internet. That is what drives interestonline and ultimately drives traffic to your website. We want to play our partin driving traffic to your site based on the great content you create.

    6. The power of tagging and sharingTagging content appropriately makes it easier for people to find and sharethat content. It supports the ongoing distribution of that content far and wideso even more people will come across the content and engage with it.There are many different types of content platform. They include things likeyour own blog, Flickr, YouTube, TripAdvisor and Twitter. They all allow youto associate tags to the content you place on them. Those tags areessentially categories – the same kind of categories that people will usewhen searching for that type of content online. These open platforms also allow other people to embed that content on theirown websites. That’s exactly what we will be doing with images shared onFlickr. We’ll also be putting a direct link on those images so people can clickon them and they will be directed to the Flickr profile from which the imagesoriginated.
    7. Every picture shares your thrills ... Join us on Visit Wales : Share Wales : Flickr Share Wales Editor’s Choice: At Abereiddy by Celtic Quest Coasteering
    8. Share pictures on flickrWe have set up a group on the photo sharing website Flickr.http://www.flickr.com/groups/sharewales/Setting up an account on Flickr is simple. You can then start uploadingpictures from your computer, tagging them appropriately and adding them tothe Share Wales group. We’re picking the best ones and adding them to thenew visitwales.com site and the Editor’s Blog on sharewales.com. There willbe a direct link back to your Flickr profile where you can provide basicinformation about your business, as well as lots of other interesting pictures.Other people can do the same. We’ve also provided some guidelines around how to tag the images.http://www.flickr.com/photos/visitwales/6357705801/

    13. Every picture shares your heritage ... Join us on Visit Wales : Share Wales : Flickr Share Wales Editor’s Choice: Waterwheel, Aberdulais Falls, by Jon Curtis
    14. Copyright and why should I bother?Let’s get one thing straight. Not everybody wants to share their photos andallow other people to use them. We understand that and that’s absolutelyfine. Flickr deals with copyright very well and allows the originator to decideexactly what they want to allow or not. By adding images to the Share Walesgroup you are agreeing to those images being used by Visit Wales andother organisations in their promotion of Wales. If you are not happy doingthat please do not add them. Are your images enabled for sharing? Clickhere.More importantly, what’s in it for you?Well each image will be attributed to source and contain a link back to theoriginators Flickr profile. If your image get’s featured on our home page orother popular pages it could help drive significant interest in your businessand what you have to offer. We’ll be driving around 2 million visitors to thosepages during 2013. All of whom are current or potential visitors to Wales.
