  • 3. INTRODUCTION
    • Floriculture has emerged as one of the most lucrative profession having much higher potential of return than most of the other field crops.
    • A wide variety of flower are grown in india, popular among them are rose, gladiolus, marigold, jasmine, chrysanthemum, carnation, tuberose, amaryllis, hollyhocks, nasturtium, calendula, pansies, corn flowers, anthurium etc.
    • Jasmine is popular in the world over for its perfume
    • There are 90 species of jasmine are grown in India out of them about 20 species are under culyivation in south India

    • The most commonly cultivated ones are Jasminum multiflorum(Kakada), J. sambac(Gundu mallige), J.grandiflorum(Jajimallige) and J.auriculatium(sooji mallige)
    • Women and floriculture are ecologically and economically inseperable
    • Women play a vital role in floriculture particularly in several post harvest operations, storage and marketting and also planting, weeding, manuring, picking of flowers.
    • Jasmine production is a boon for rural women and it is a tool to enance their socio-economic status and their family standard living

    • Majority of the respondents including in the study were young (52.22%), had low education(41.4%),with large land holding with medium area under crop
    • High percentage of respondents were found to participate in different agricultural activities had medium, decision making level with less social participation, extension participation, medium cosmopolitans and mass media participation
    • Nearly 50 per cent of jasmine growers had medium knowledge level
    • Almost all the jasmine growers had correct knowledge about practices like seed materials to be used best seed material, different varieties of jasmine

    • Age, farming experience, participation in different activities, decision making of the respondent farm women were found to be significantly related with knowledge level of jasmine of jasmine growers.
    • Land holding , area under crop, annual income, farming experience, participation in different activities and decision making patterns of farm women were found to be significantly related with adoption of jasmine growers.
  • 18. Implication
    • The results reflects that there is a need for organizing the education programmes effectively and frequently by extension workers, at village level, for achieving higher knowledge and adoption levels.
    • The participation of women in organization was unsatisfactory. Hence they must be encouraged to themselves in the various organization which help to increasing the knowledge level.
  • 19. CONCLUSION
    • There is a need to educate both men and women to enhance respectability for women in farming in particular and their status in the society in general without disturbing the prevailing harmony
