Eugene SRTS Program

  1. 1. Eugene SRTS Program A Team Effort led by the 4J School District Encouraging Active Transportation for the City of the Arts & Outdoors. Department of PPPM
  2. 2. School District Information <ul><li>Willamette Valley </li></ul><ul><li>155 Square Miles </li></ul><ul><li>17,000 Students </li></ul><ul><li>26 Elementary 13 Middle 8 High 3 Charter Schools </li></ul><ul><li>Started in 1854 </li></ul>

Eugene SRTS Program <ul><li>History of Bicycle & Pedestrian projects from the ‘70s </li></ul><ul><li>Current program started at a pilot school as federal funding for SRTS became available </li></ul><ul><li>A team was formed to bring together City, District, University, & community members </li></ul>Mission: Eugene Safe Routes to School is a community approach to encourage and enable more people to walk and bike to school safely.

District Approach <ul><li>Projects the school district is working on to increase the walkability and bikeability for our students </li></ul><ul><li>Encouragement- Freiker,Walk + Bike Day, Kidical Mass & More ! </li></ul><ul><li>Education- BikeEducation & GEARs/BTA </li></ul><ul><li>Enforcement- Speed Checks & the Police </li></ul><ul><li>Engineering- DesignBridge & the City of Eugene </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluation- Surveys, tallies, and reviews </li></ul>

Walk & Bike Day (and more) <ul><li>Third Wednesday of October </li></ul><ul><li>29 Eugene Schools Participated up from 8 two years ago. </li></ul><ul><li>Spring - Green Week: Walk & Roll Day before Earth Day. </li></ul><ul><li>Summer- Bike Day & Blackberry Jamboree </li></ul><ul><li>Every day- walking school buses and bike trains. </li></ul>Encouragement :

Encouragement & Education : <ul><li>A family fun ride! </li></ul><ul><li>It’s not critical…. it’s Kidical! </li></ul><ul><li>We follow the rules of the road, share our secret backroads, have fun, review safety tips, and end with ice cream (or a healthy treat)! </li></ul><ul><li>www.kidicalmass.org </li></ul>
