CASE STUDY – MANUFACTURER OF SUB WOOFERS AND LIDAR • Based in California, USA • Successfully replaced aging Expandable with OpenERP • Challenges with Expandable o Not linked to the online selling channels o Unsuitable to meet the needs of the company as it grows into multi- geographies. o Not possible to link with outsourced warehouse being managed by UPS in China. o Old ERP system with too much manual entries and little control checks, lacking the features of a modern ERP system. o Old system does not support advanced manufacturing and lacks insight into WIP inventory and detailed costing. o Licensing issues, per seat licenses limits the number of users causing users to be locked out of the system.
  • 9. • Advantages with OpenERP o Successfully migrated all the data from Expandable into OpenERP o Server hosted on Amazon enabling departments from different Geographies to use the ERP. o Tight linkage of third party logistics provided by UPS from within ERP . o No more licensing and user limitation given the open-source nature of OpenERP. o End-to-end integration with online selling channels, shipping, logistics, banking and other providers. o Implemented OpenERP 6.1 with it modern web-based UI, which was much better than the native client of Expandable. o Elimination of manual entries and reduction of errors due to human mistakes.   • 10. • Based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. • Online selling of optical products across Europe • Migrated for legacy ERP - Filemaker to OpenERP • Challenges with Filemaker o Old system which was not able to handle the workload of Amex as their business expanded. o A lot of customizations and programs needed to be created to meet the business requirements. o Needed a modern ERP system with strong MRP capabilities and complete backend processes. o Needed capability of handling multi-currency and multi-country requirements with complex tax rules. o Capable of using integrated accounting and not having to export data into AccountsView application CASE STUDY - AMEX OPTICS
