  8. 8. { Microsoft Sidewinder X4, a gaming keyboard with macro function keys. KEYBOARD
  9. 9.  Microphone is an acoustic-to-electric transducer that converts sound into an electrical signal.  Microphone is used for recording voice, speech recognition and VoIP in computers. MICROPHONE
  10. 10. { A Sennheiser microphone MICROPHONE
  11. 11.  Joystick is an input device consisting of a stick that pivots on a base and reports its angle or direction to the device it is controlling.  Joysticks are often used to control video games, and usually have one or more push- buttons whose state can also be read by the computer. JOYSTICK
  12. 12. { Video game joystick elements: 1. stick, 2. base, 3. trigger, 4. extra buttons, 5. auto fire switch, 6. throttle, 7. hat switch (POV hat), 8. suction cup. JOYSTICK
  13. 13.  Scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image.  Common examples found in offices are variations of the desktop (or flatbed) scanner where the document is placed on a glass window for scanning. SCANNER
  14. 14. { Canon’s CanoScan 9000F, a high speed flatbed scanner. SCANNER
  15. 15. {MONITOR, PRINTER AND SPEAKR OUTPUT DEVICES
  16. 16.  A monitor is an electronic visual display unit for computers.  The display device in modern monitors is typically a thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) thin panel, while older monitors use a cathode ray tube (CRT) about as deep as the screen size. MONITOR
  17. 17. { Samsung SA950, a LED backlit monitor. MONITOR
  18. 18.  Printer is a peripheral which produces a text or graphics of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper or transparencies.  The printers commonly used with the computer are the dot matrix printer, the ink-jet printer and the laser jet printer. PRINTER
  19. 19. { Canon Pixma MP150, a inkjet printer. PRITNER
  20. 20.  Speaker is an electroacoustic transducer that produces sound in response to an electrical audio signal input.  Speakers are used to listen to the sound files, which can be audio, recorded by a microphone or audio CDs. SPEAKER
  21. 21. { Creative GigaWorks T3 2.1 speakers. SPEAKER
  22. 22. {MOTHERBOARD, CPU AND GPU PROCESSING DEVICES
  23. 23.  Motherboard has standard circuitry that is needed for the PC.  It also has an extra set of expansion slots that enable you to plug-in cards, such as modem and sound card. MOTHERBOARD
  24. 24. { ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, a ATX motherboard. MOTHERBOARD
  25. 25.  CPU is the hardware within a computer system which carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetical, logical, and input/output operations of the system.  Major CPU manufacturers are AMD and Intel.  Two typical components of a CPU are the arithmetic logic unit (ALU), which performs arithmetic and logical operations, and the control unit (CU). CPU
  26. 26. { An Intel Core i7 processor. CPU
  27. 27.  GPU is a specialized electronic circuit designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the building of images in a frame buffer intended for output to a display.  Major GPU manufacturers are AMD and NVIDIA. GPU
  28. 28. { NVIDIA GTX690, the most powerful graphic card till now. GPU
  29. 29. {PRIMARY STORAGE DEVICES AND SECONDARY STORAGE DEVICES STORAGE DEVICES
  30. 30. {RAM PRIMARY STORAGE DEVICES
  31. 31.  RAM is a volatile storage device.  It is a storage device with very high read and write rates.  The different types of RAM are DRAM, SRAM and SDRAM. RAM
  32. 32. { CORSAIR DOMINATOR Platinum, high performance double data rate type three synchronous dynamic random access memory. RAM
  33. 33. {HARD DISK, SOLID STATE DRIVE AND FLASH DRIVE SECONDARY STORAGE DEVICES
  34. 34.  Hard Disk is a device for storing and retrieving digital information.  Hard Disk consists of one or more rigid rapidly rotating discs coated with magnetic material, and with magnetic heads arranged to write data to the surfaces and read it from them. HARD DISK
  35. 35. { Seagate Barracuda XT, a 7200rmp high performance hard disk drive. HARD DISK
  36. 36.  Solid State Drive is a data storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently.  SSDs are typically less susceptible to physical shock, are silent, and have lower access time and latency. SOLID STATE DRIVE
